Washington (45-35) at New Jersey (40-40) 7:30 pm EDT

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- After opening the season 3-11, the New Jersey Nets are on the verge of clinching the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

New Jersey, which is tied with Cleveland for eighth place in the East, can qualify for the postseason with a win against the Washington Wizards and a loss by the Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.

Vince Carter scored 43 points and Jason Kidd posted his 67th career triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 16 assists to lead the Nets to a 104-83 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday.

Carter, who recorded his fifth 40-point game since joining the Nets, broke Bernard King's franchise record with his 23rd 30-point game this season and helped New Jersey to its 13th win in 17 outings.

Washington is one game behind the Chicago Bulls for fourth place in the East and home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs with two games remaining.

Larry Hughes scored 28 points, Gilbert Arenas added 27 and Antawn Jamison 26 with 13 rebounds to lead the Wizards to a 106-104 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats on Sunday

Washington will try to complete its first season sweep of New Jersey in five years. Hughes scored 33 points for the Wizards in a 112-88 victory over the Nets in their last encounter on January 4.

AJ is gonna have to stick Vince even tho he cant, Jarred Jefferies has a big job to do tonight....

THATS WHY i say lets go for a tall athletic smalll foward that can play D.....i forgot whos a free agent but theres some interesting ones out there....

We should be able to beat them and we have to if we want a strong push in the playoffs...

blaim the refs? We're on a pace to score 52 points this game.

Maybe we could fuss some if we were playing with any kind of heart.

This game is pretty much a lost cause. I'll watch til I fall asleep, but as I'm on 4 hours sleep, that won't be long. Too bad.

Wow. We look like a YMCA team out there. Desperation is making Jason and Vince explode. I'd say it's over, but only because there is simply not enough "inscentive" for the Wizards to runthemsleves out. I'm here for the whole game though. I don't care. When you're 7 foot, 250+ lbs and you're a #1 draft pick and this is your 4th year in the league you should be able to have an ironclad grip on that ball.

C-web or shaq would have had that, no problem.

EJ needs to give kwame a basketball and he needs to take it everywhere with him, like highschooler football coaches do with kids who fumble too damn much.

That's why people are saying Kwame will never be a dominangt player (hands to small) so he can't grip the ball properly like other big guys with huge hands.

hopefully kidd will cool off and we can put a run on them. EJ needs to turn over some tables in the locker room.

TODD
April-19th-2005, 08:47 PM
Phil Chenier has his head up his ass tonight. I love the guy, but I don't see how you make a positive out of that atrocious reach-in by Kwame on Kidd.

Kwame Brown is not going to steal the ball from Jason Kidd. Period.

I want everyone to look out for something in the second half: watch how Kwame sets his pick when the Wiz run the offense. They are the most lazy and half-assed screens I've ever seen. Little things like that hurt us big time.

And for everybody who like Arenas' PG approach that he had vs. Milwaukee when he had 8 pts and 13 assists... how do you like it tonight.

And one more halftime rant:

When you're down twenty with 8 minutes left in the second quarter, that's a pretty crucial time to try and chip at that lead as you approach halftime and make the game winnable. EJ is not going to have the Wiz chip away at a lead like that when you put Dixon, Thomas, Kwame, and Peeler on the floor. It's not going to work because there is no offense in those players. I don't understand how you sit your two best players in an important stretch for six minutes.

Well, I really think the FO want to play the Bulls. maybe their throwing the game or something. cause the bulls are the only team I think we can beat and the FO knows that.

It should be noted that Blake and Dixon carried us in the 4th back into a competitive contest.

Why isnt Gilbert in there.... I lost reception when we were down 12, i thought EJ would put GIl in there for us...WTF.

A batted ball from Blake went right to him. He couldn't hold on to it.

he obviously didn't do it on purpose...i like the hustle. kwame has some big rebounds in that run.

I think it was just going with fresh legs at that point. I'm not protesting it. It worked, to a large degree.

well, the final score doesn't show how much of a beating this really was. what a piss poor effort

Even though i still cant see it.. I wish Kwame gets traded...matter of fact i wish he'd get cut before the playoffs even start, hes a menace to the team, did you see how many dumb shots he took earlier ?

i dunno i'm encouraged how we finished out the game. we showed good effort off the bench. and if we can get this kinda hustle in the playoff we'll be tough. personally i liked the fact that kwame was taking shots tonight.

He had some good plays and big boards down the stretch.

but i agree, get rid of him in the offseason, get a real bigman.

Dont let those Rebounding games fool you, its just a smokescreen to cover his inability to score consistently. Even though he couldnt score tonight, he took 13 shots ROFL..what a scrub.

I really thought he could turn it around this season, but hes starting to look like more of a scrub than Darko Milcic... :/

I'd like to say a quick thing about our ability defend the pick and roll; whatever we've done, none of it has worked. Earlier this year we tried fighting through the pick, going under, going over, jumping out and running back, and just jumping out and staying there.

Jumping out and doubling teaming seemed to work the best so that's what Jordan kept on using. I don't think this is as much about scheme as it is about effort and execution. The team showed no effort and execution at the start of the game and look where it got us.

What i dont understand is, late in the game it looked like we could have used a good shooter/shooters, yet Gilbert or Antawn didnt get any minutes ?

looks like EJ is resting for the playoffs and happy with the 5th seed.

EJ figured the game was a lost cause win or lose. no need to risk injury to the starts meanwhile motivate the bench and see what they can do against starters. i think EJ came out with a moral victory IMHO.

Darko knew when to shoot and when not to, Kwame just started jacking up shots like Superman wannabe Hughes :/

Did he not see that we are 29-12 at home as opposed to 16-24 on the road ?

This is what I t hought too, but as I think about it I feel EJ was trying to convey to his starters that they are the ones tha tblew this game. There's no reason for them to be losing like that to NJ. I think he pulled them to send a message. Look at the bench! Our backups! Our 2nd team! Competing with the Nets when you guys couldnt stay close!

I think it was a statement by EJ about defense. The backups came close because they were hustling, rebounding, and defending and the starters were not. Once they started to come back Jordan just rewarded them by letting them finish since they put in all the work, and by golly, they almost did.

I asked to bench the starters in the first quarter. :(

Maybe we will figure out how to play winning team ball before its to late. We have the talent. they just have to play the right kind of ball
