View Full Version : Was the first round of playoffs ever best out of 5?

This is really bugging me.. For some reason, I keep thinking that the first round of the NBA playoffs was always shorter than the rest of the rounds..
Was this ever the case or am I going crazy?
(Note: I don't follow much basketball.)

i really dont like that 7 game first round format, it takes forever for them to play it (with stupid TV coverage only playing twice a week), and 90% of the match ups are garbage anyway.

I feel that usually the only bad matchups are the 1 vs 8s. The NBA can be pretty cruel to the middle seeds and this year in the East it could even get interesting between Miami and New Jersey. Kidd and Carter are NOT fooling around right now.
For me- the more games, the merrier. :D
