Why hasn't the Lance Armstrong doping story made bigger headlines?
I'm just Curious why havn't there been a media blitz covering this story? Here you have one of the biggest sports icons being charged with doping as far back as 1999 and is it me, but there hasn't been that much media coverage. Even though Armstrong has been accused of doping before, this is believed to be the first credible evidence that supports it.
Re: Why hasn't the Lance Armstrong doping story made bigger headlines?
Because everyone wants to turn a blind eye to something they don't want to admit might have happened.
Re: Why hasn't the Lance Armstrong doping story made bigger headlines?
Because there is nothing that truly makes it credible at this time. So far, no one can actually support that the test results actually blonged to Lance's test sample.
It wasn't that they were insisting he had been doping since '99, but that they insisted he was doping in '99. Big difference, but no one has still been able to 100% link the test results with Lance. It's not a stretch to think that someone involved in cycling has done stuff like this, but he would be taking a huge chance considering he had something like three different kinds of cancer in his body.
This isn't someone coming out and definitely saying Rafael Palmeiro had failed a drug test. This is the French, who had been sore enough that an American won their premiere cycling event several times, clutching at straws with the subjunctive.
Talk of Lance taking performance-enhancing drugs has been going on so long that one more story isn't exactly a major news event, especially when the guy is one of the most-tested athletes ever and has passed every test.
Re: Why hasn't the Lance Armstrong doping story made bigger headlines?
As I understand it, it was some independent French Rag that published a story saying that in '99 his blood test might have included a performance enhancer.
Well a lot of things MIGHT have happened. I MIGHT have done a handstand on the moon in 1984... I MIGHT have ... well, you get the point.
And the source? The bitter French who's precious race got OWNED by a Texan? I won't even go there. ;)
Re: Why hasn't the Lance Armstrong doping story made bigger headlines?
at this point, does it even matter since he's retiring? besides haven't they been testing the dude like crazy.
Re: Why hasn't the Lance Armstrong doping story made bigger headlines?
I was just watching Outside The Lines on ESPN, and they showed footage, which I'd seen before and I understand it doesn't prove a thing, but why were some of Armstrong's associates taking trash away from his home and desposing of it a 100 miles away? Just curious.

You can sure as hell bet if I was taking some sort of illegal drug (performance-enhancing or otherwise), I wouldn't be telling other people about it, let alone trusting them to dispose of any "evidence."

Rich and powerful people always have someone else do the dirty work. I'm sure they were paid pretty good.
Re: Why hasn't the Lance Armstrong doping story made bigger headlines?
There's an article and a column on it by Wilbon on the front page of the Sports section of the Washington Post today. How much more coverage do you want?

Sounds like you already had your mind made up before starting this thread. Ironic that your last post was your 666th... ;)

:whoknows: Maybe his kids had some stanky-ass diapers? Maybe he did use performance enhancers, but since he's been tested a million times over the last 7 years, and always come up negative, another speculative story with shoddy evidence by a French paper is not going to convince anyone he's guilty. For all we know, they could've paid one of the lab techs to switch the labels or "match" Lance's ID# with the positive sample. And don't forget that even experts have said this test is not fool-proof.
Re: Why hasn't the Lance Armstrong doping story made bigger headlines?
Don't forget these are six year-old B samples they're trying to link to him and anything can happen to them. They're not even A samples.

When the Balco story broke, it had 24/7 coverage. The Armstrong doping story has 5/3 coverage.

From what I've heard is that they were frozen and the samples would be good today.
