1991 'Skins are the #4 best Superbowl champs

Number 4
1991 Washington Redskins
Winning percentage: 66.8%
Mark Rypien and his Posse rate as the most prolific passing offense of any Super Bowl champion and this Redskins team also gave up the fewest sacks of any team. The rest of their stats were pretty average, but the two facts mentioned are enough to put this team in the top five.

Oh god, it's been to long.
Re: 1991 'Skins are the #4 best Superbowl champs
If the '83 team would have beaten the Raiders, I think that team would be 1 or 2.
Re: 1991 'Skins are the #4 best Superbowl champs
That team would match up with any team in history. The defense was very underrated too.
Re: 1991 'Skins are the #4 best Superbowl champs
I'll say it again - I envy a lot of you guys who lived through and enjoyed the Super Bowl victories.
Re: 1991 'Skins are the #4 best Superbowl champs
I've said it on this forum many times. ESPN.com a few years did a good job in setting a criteria for rating Superbowl Champions from the past.
For example they had things like
Team record,
Margin of Victory in Wins, Margin of Losses,
Sacks Allowed, Sacks given,
Points Scored, Points allowed,
Yards gained, yards allowed.
Strength of Schedule.
Those are a few of the criteria that come to mind. Anyhow after they tallied up everything the Skins 91 team was in the top five all time. I think that Skins defense is highly underated. They had 3 shutouts in the 1st 5 games. 2 of those teams were playoff squads in 91. I have debates with Cowbum fans all the time who try and throw their 13-3 Superbowl champion team in there. There's no justification for it when you bring up the #'s. When you do up the #'s thats 91 Skins squad blows that 13-3 Cowbum team away.

Number 1 1999 St. Louis Rams
What a joke

4 shut out wins that season. Most of the games were blow outs.

Probably, yeah.
I did a search and nothing came up.
The '91 team is kinda special for me, even though I was really young. My dad still has the Wheaties box with the team on it somewhere at his apt.
Re: 1991 'Skins are the #4 best Superbowl champs
I've never even seen film of this superbowl? Just heard about it from my dad...

Actually it was only 3, but they had quite a few other games where they held the opponent to less than 10 (Bears, Rams, Falcons playoff game). The defense, while not Bears or Raven dominant, was so damn effective...only a couple of times did anyone move the ball on them with any kind of regularity that season. The first cowboys game (mostly the first half, the defense shut them down in the second half) and the second half of the Bengals game. The skins won both of those games anyway...in the team's two losses, the defense did a good job, but they were rare off days for the offense.
Re: 1991 'Skins are the #4 best Superbowl champs
Not sure who the polled for this result, but to have the 1999 Rams at number #1 and the 1972 Dolphins at #10 and the 1987 Redskins nowhere on the list. I have to question it.

They were a very good team, no doubt. But they had one of the weakest, easiest schedules EVER. Their division had the Niners, Saints, Falcons, Panthers, who were all BRUTAL that year (a combined 20-44). Not to mention they also played the 2-14 Browns, 4-12 Bengals, 6-10 Bears, and 5-11 Eagles (to whom they lost).
The only two teams they played in the regular season with a winning record, they lost. The only playoff game they won convincingly was the Vikings, they nearly got upset by a Tampa Bay team led by Shaun King, and needed that famous last second tackle to beat the Titans.

Oh, i think they could've seen a better one if they tried a little harder.
