If Danny Smith isnt responsible, there should be no issue with ANYONE, if he get's fired (or firing squaded) this week right?
After all, if he's not responsible for the pisspoor performance of our special team (for his entire tenure here btw), then noone should care either way if he's gone right?
I personally would like him to suffer, since his special teams have caused me so much suffering over the past 6 + years.
Did anyone read this article today in the USA Today? This guy is currently coaching at a small Div.III school (Emory & Henry, yes I'm an alum!) and seems to have that special touch that we may be missing in our kickers. Just nominated for the NFL Hall of Fame. I say we ought to bring him in as a consultant.

I'm one that has no respect at all for our special teams outside of Lorenzo Alexander. The man is pure money. But damn every time our special teams is on the field I just wanna close my eyes. Punt converge seems to be the exception as Sav is usually booming them high enough for our gunners to get to the returner before the the ball does. But then I think of who was responsible for "just signing" cundiff to the starting spot without any competition for the job. I mean he wasn't good in Dallas and was pretty good in Baltimore but choked. Do you blame Danny or Mike for this? Don't you have to lean more blame on Shanny since, after all, he is the head coach? In the end who is responsible for incompetence now that Snyder has takin himself out of football operations? Obviously this lands on the shoulders of Allen and Shanny. Man I just don't know anymore. But who else is available? I mean weigh out our options. If there a special teams genius out there in hiding? Or is it all exclusively in players executing their job? Coaches coach and players perform right? Where's the line drawn?
Just ran some numbers and posted this to twitter.
Redskins opponents are averaging 49 yards/punt vs. us this year (51 yards/punt outside the Bengals game). Only 6 punters in the league are averaging over 49 yards a punt on the year.
Redskins opponents also have made 11 consecutive FGs vs. us and all 9 this year (including 3 50+ yarders last 2 weeks). Don't remember the typical league average for FGs but I think its somewhere just south of 80%.
I have to think this has something to do with the lack of our aggressiveness on defensive special teams. Can anyone remember the last time we blocked a punt, or even brought the house and tried to? I can't. Same goes with FGs. We all remember the Vernon Fox/ST block, but that was when the game was on the line and we had to bring everybody.
Leads me to believe that kickers and punters are extremely comfortable back there cause they know we're not even trying to bring anybody. Danny is playing too cautious trying to make sure we don't get burned on fake FGs and set up Brandon Randle Banks. Not to even mention our offensive special teams with our kicker situation and 38 year old punter.
havent really paid attention this year, but i know last year our field goal/extra point unit never even tried to get a block. when the ball was snapped, they all just stood up, grabbed the guy in front of them, and just kinda stood there. they literally just let the other team kick with no pressure. that is totally unacceptable, and danny smith should have been on their ass about it. but since he wasnt, he must have told them to play that way which should have led to his firing right then and there.
The same way his dayum kicker does! Dan Snyder must have slept with their wives.
I'm going to say it now I have defended Danny Smith for a long time but he has to go after last week look at the numbers how many kickers have we going through in the last few years it is hard to count. Blocked punts the first two weeks this year that cost us the game vs the Rams.
Well, Shayne Graham looks pretty good for the Texans this year. He shanked 2 kicks last preseason. Bad shanks, like curveball shanks. Danny Smith is the ONLY constant in our kicker and punter merry-go-round. There is literally nothing else that hasn't changed. The goalposts in FedEx, the field, the pants, the jerseys, the shoes, the holder, the long snapper, strength and conditioning. EVERYTHING has changed. Except Danny Smith. I am going to start picketing outside BoneFish in Ashburn
I've also defended Smith in the past--but, he needs to go. I will drive the bus to take him out of town.
Whatever other stuff Danny Smith does during a game on the sideline next to Shanahan, forget all that. Focus on your unit, dude, and get that squared away.
This is what I wrote in another thread:
"And when is the last time a kicker, ANY kicker has missed a FG against us, especially from 50+ yards? I watched the d-line on Bryant's 53 yarder- ZERO penetration, ZERO effort and mostly standing around. That my friends is a Danny Smith coached team. I mean, get some penetration and MAKE the kicker have to loft it up over the line. As it stands now, every kicker can line-drive a 50 yarder because we don't try. Thanks Danny effin Smith."
OK, so for all of you Danny Smith fans out there... i have some fun for you this week.
as you may know or may not know or may not care, i co-host the greatest and funniest NFL podcast on planet Earth, the Bang Cartoon Radio Hour.
Click my sig below and listen!
This Friday, we have an interview fom a Columbus radio station with former Redskins punter Andy Groom. Now bear in mind he's n the radio up in Columbus talking Ohio state football, but somehow danny Smith comes into the conversation.
He gives you the inside view we all know is true.. but finally you get to hear it from one of the horses mouths.
It is pretty funny. (and for those familiar with the show, this is real, not just me doing a character.)
Now, if you've never heard our show, bear in mind it's not like other NFL podcasts you might be used to.. we're not interested in stats or giving you our impressions of the game or the team. That's been done.
We release the show on fridays,. so typically you 've heard every angle of last week's games that there is to analyze. this is a comedy show.
So if you want to hear us call Jerry Jones while he's high on ecstasy to talk about Tony romo throwing interceptions, well, this be the place! (episode 206,, the current one. give it a listen, damn funny!)
We also make fun of Dan Dierdorf's thpeech impediment, listen to Stehpen A Smith go nuts over the Jets... we hail some new fans (the US Paralympic Sitting Volleyball team.. go team!) and a lot more.
This week we delve into DJ Williams supplying non-human urine for his last drug test. An Ohio State QB complaining he has to go to class, (that's not why I came to college!) Tennessee buttchugging, Rich eisen describing a play using the word "face-rape"..michael Irvin impregnating everyone with reality, and of course, the piece with Andy Groom.
Click below, give episode 206 a listen, and on Friday, grab 207. You'll have fun..
