Bill Belechick plays more mind games than any coach in the league.
The New England Patriots are the most successful team of the last decade. And their fans LOVE Bill Belechick.
Maybe they don't call it "mind games". Maybe they call it "good coaching".
And maybe they're right.
Re: Fanhouse: Mike Shanahan Sticking to Plan With Donovan McNabb
Here's the thing about the whole "mistake" he's made... in my mind, it's the best possible "mistake" a head coach can make. If you're going to make a mistake, let it be for someone as important as a franchise QB. I'd take that risk every offseason in the hopes that we do land one, because once we do, everything else becomes easy. I think Shanny knows and understands this well, and is going to do whatever it takes to land that guy.
People saying this is the same old Redskins and referencing the McNabb trade are missing that we would've given up a 2nd rounder and a 3rd the next year for a WR or a RB previously, and one that wasn't even considered elite. We took a chance on a QB who has always been considered elite, and had just come off one of his better years. I like that. If you're going to give up high picks, let it be for someone as important as a franchise QB.

I don't and never will consider a 34 year old in his first year with a team a franchise quarterback.
Otherwise, I agree with your theory for the most part.

I would add....the theory sounds good but when you examine our track record of picks for players tread lightly. We didn't.
Re: Fanhouse: Mike Shanahan Sticking to Plan With Donovan McNabb
Don't be surprised if we beat Jax this week. I believe Shanahan is doing the right thing. He took a shot at winning this year and it didn't work out. So, you start planning for next season immediately. Grossman is going to make this offense fun for the players to play in again. You can hear it in their words when they talk about him.
Re: Fanhouse: Mike Shanahan Sticking to Plan With Donovan McNabb
Until I hear something that resembles the truth, I have no reason to believe anything the Shannys say.

Just some FYI - Don't compare Shanny to Belechick. The idjits around here don't like that because it's above their level of thinking.
Just sayin. :)

yeah i mean come on.
bellicheck has won a ton more super bowls (which are easy if you have a good quarterback) and done it with a multitude of different guys behind center. i mean it's not like he had a top 10 qb or may have used some questionable practices to win.

Why does Shanahan owe you the truth? Or anyone else, for that matter?

Well, Shanahan has nothing to do with our track record. I don't get why we compare our past mistakes with his. This is his team, no matter what silly accusations people conjure up in an attempt to make it look like Snyder was behind anything. So I believe that, again, Shanahan did tread lightly. It just didn't work out as hoped, and a lot of it had to do with intangibles you simply can't measure.
Let's get ourselves a franchise QB, Shanny. You can do it! Who knows, maybe it's still McNabb? :)

We've talked about this ad nauseam, KDawg, and you know that I disagree there. McNabb, in my mind, isn't declining due to age. I understand where you're coming from, but I just don't look at McNabb and think "34 years old" like you do. I could care less how old he is. I'm looking at his arm and his general athleticism and it's still there. He was definitely a chance at a franchise QB for at least another 3-4 years while we groom one under him.
We'll just have to agree to disagree. But, unfortunately for you, I'm right and you suck for it. :pfft:

Well, you got one part right, I suck :ols:
However, I'd say the proof is in the pudding my burgundy tinted sunglasses wearing friend ;)

I'm getting real sick and tired of EVERYTHING in Washington ending up with cries of RACISM! MLK is turning over in his grave.
