Haslett won't ever learn. Frustrating to watch as a fan.
Keep in mind, none of this is Haslett's fault. /boggle /sigh
Hopefully the O doesn't turtle up like they have been..
Edit... Well, Grossman strikes. /ugh
Come on defensive players make something happen.
The difference between this last call vs the Rams and the one against the Cowpukes is this one is on RAK!!! (I know, I know, "HOW DARE HE SAY THAT ABOUT RAK!") It was Rak's job to cover Jackson... make Jackson stay in and block by going at HIM not the QB. Sacrificing himself for someone else to get in and make the sack. With him popping Jackson in the mouth first thing off the bat, it would take him out of being an option for a receiver and the ball would be over thrown (timing). Instead Rak reads Jackson going out in the flat too late. Jackson did do a good job of fooling him too. But since Rak didn't put hands on him in the backfield he lost him and wanted another sack... I mean, can you blame him. He was reeking havoc all game and wanted ONE MORE... so I fully understand...
Haslett has always been a ear pinned back, attack kind of guy. That will never change. We will get more players who can help that mode of defense and we will continue to excel. It's fun to watch, probably more fun to play in. Get use to it.
and as we keep drafting better talent to fit the 3-4. blitzing on those downs will be even more successful. and you saw in the 4th quarter, we were playing a lot of 4-2
Absolutely agree. I don't think we're as weak as we were a couple of years ago - I like Josh Wilson as a replacement for 'Los, and I think OJ is a definite upgrade to the likes of Sha'reff Rashad, Justin Hamilton, Macho Harris, et al - but it's best not to let this crop of players hang out too long in space. The best cure for THAT is a good bookend rush, such as what we've got in Rak and Kerrigan.
i'm not saying they're awful, but it's pretty obvious what our strength is. d. hall has always been a guy to take advantage of rushed throws as opposed to holding up man coverage for any length of time and josh wilson is a decent 2nd/3rd tier corner (depending on how you want to do your ranking)
i really thought OJ would have a bigger impact, and maybe he is because we haven't had many deep passes go against us (when it's not zero coverage of course). it's hard to tell from the angles fox gives you.
if you look at a defense like the ravens/steelers who we are trying to emulate, it's not about the corners. it's about the front 7 and having one cover/one flex safety.
i think we have a lot of the tools, and i really think the best part about the way the defense is playing this year is it will give us more flexibility in the draft instead of chasing more pieces to this 3-4.
