LOL. Were they shrewd in getting A-Rod, Sabathia and Texiera?
Outside of the Sox, name another team that can afford 3 highly paid free agents?
Printable View
1) A-Rod was traded here...after Texas made him all that money in the first place then decided they didn't want to anymore...and we gave up arguably our best player AT THE TIME in Alphonso Soriano
2) The Phillies I believe got Lee and Halladay in 2011...the Angels picked up Pujols, whose salary is equivalent to about 3 good players himself...
3) I'll give you Sabathia and Tex...but I hope your not saying that we are making the playoffs this year (and last year for that matter) because of any of them. A-Rod is a slap hitter now, Tex strikes out as much as Granderson, and CC just got back to being dominating a couple starts ago. In fact, most Yankee messageboards routinely pine for all of the above to be traded for younger guys. (that obviously won't happen but I will say the days of us making annual big splashes seems over with Hal in charge)
THIS YEAR's team is powered by homegrown guys and platoon guys.
But of course, you guys don't wanna hear that and just wanna talk money, money, money. It's cool though :)

I mean our best starter is Hiroki Kuroda lol
F the Yanks.
Big game tonight. Off to a bit of a bad start but we have to get to the Jays starter early. He has been terrible lately. If our hitters are going to go off, tonight will be the night.

There is 1.
Thank you, Nate. Gotta find a way to win this one. Losing 3 of 4 to Toronto at this time of the year would be flat out unacceptable.
Your example of a cheap Yankees starter is being paid $10 million this year.
That is basically the cost of Baltimore's entire starting rotation:
Jason Hammel ($4.75 mil)
Wei-Yin Chen ($3.0 mil)
Brian Matusz ($1.4 mil)
Tommy Hunter ($500k)
Jake Arrieta ($490k)
Zach Britton ($490k)
Chris Tillman ($400k)
Miguel Gonzalez (minor league deal)
...The economics of the Yankees are just different.
i wasn't saying he was cheap...I was getting at this notion that we still gobble up every good FA. Nobody really wanted Kuroda besides us...they wanted him last year at the deadline but the Dodgers wouldnt budge.
I will wholeheartedly agree with your last statement but I'm not trying to sidetrack this thread. I come in this thread because we are both battling down the stretch and I love friendly competition.
I really hope I'm not coming off as a dick
We aren't patient with balls outside on the zone, they are. We aren't making good contact, they are. Really frustrating right now. I guess we are going to have to win with our pitching like we have been lately. Some 2-1 or 3-2 type of games and look out, the A's are already winning 4-0 in the first.

We need that medical machine from Prometheus to heal Nick's hand immediately.
Big Jim! Can we please get a few more runs? Solo HRs are good and all, but I'd love to just break out...

Manny! Another solo shot, I'll take it.
That's it boys...Manny being Manny.
There it is! 3 run bomb from Chris! That's what we needed.
3-2 O's. Finally a lead.

6-2 O's. That's what I'm talking about.
And Gonzo sets 'em down in order in the 6th. Beautiful! Hold onto this one and root for the Mariners.

Boom!!!!!!
Wow, another bomb from Reynolds this time. The bats are alive tonight!
As we close in on win #89, I'd like to thank you guys for the season. It's been up and down (mostly up), and coming to this thread to celebrate or vent has been awesome. Here's to having something to write about in the post-season!
Chris ****ing Davis...good god.

Is this real life? Another HR for Machado now. What a game for the long ball.
