Damn it is so depressing realizing that this series should be beginning in Nats Park right now. It's tough knowing what could have been.....I can't seem to get the nightmare out of my head :(

I'm not anymore. This team had their chance and didn't advance because of execution. Better luck next year as far as I'm concerned. Like every other year, it's time to watch other teams battle it out for their chance and hopefully watch the Yankees lose

As depressing as it all is, I'm still watching. Go Tigers and our local kid Verlander!

You can avoid being financially sunk on a player you can't get enough at bats for because you have to play the better defensive option.

SF has a good crowd and good stadium, but I'm not going to watch any more baseball this season I think. It's too sour.
I like that we've got some throwback teams in it though. Like to see a Giants Tigers series. I'll pull for Verlander. I remember hearing about him when he was at Goochland, a couple years older than my class. He's a big deal here in Norfolk too from his time at ODU.

I hate the DH, it makes managing the game too easy. I wish the AL would abolish it.

idk, I think there are perks either way.
My big issue with the DH is that he doesnt field. I dont like that idea that a guy can go up and not field.
On the other hand, I believe the NL is one of the last few leagues that do not use it.
Re: The Nats Thread (old thread link inside, too many load issues)
It's just silly to me that half the teams in a sport play with a different set of rules then another.
It'd be like if in NFL the NFC had 5 downs or if in the NBA the Western Conference had a 4 point shot.
Re: The Nats Thread (old thread link inside, too many load issues)
Well for all intents and purposes, a pitcher doesn't hit. Those guys are pure specialists on the defensive side. What's so bad about having one on the offensive side?
Plus you've got your situational players like pinch hitters and pinch runners that don't usually field.
Mainly, my problem with the DH is that it gives the AL an advantage over the NL because the NL won't use it.
And yeah, I agree that it's strange that half the teams play according to a significantly different rule.
Re: The Nats Thread (old thread link inside, too many load issues)
I'm still pissed Davey didn't even have a backup plan for the 9th.

My problem with the DH is that it isn't real baseball. It takes SO MUCH of the strategy out of the game. The biggest bastardization of a sport in history. Shame. Thank ****ing God the Nats are an NL team.

Yes. This.
Re: The Nats Thread (old thread link inside, too many load issues)
Pretty good article, as depressing as it is.
http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-tr...rdinals-game-5
Telling stats:
Quote:
Over those final five innings, while the Nationals fans got up for two-strike counts across 17 different Cardinals at-bats, St. Louis would strike out only four times. Instead, the Cardinals went off-script and produced an RBI groundout, three singles, a double, a home run, and four walks, knocking in five runs. With two strikes on them during the regular season, the Cardinals posted a .190/.265/.283 batting line, striking out nearly 40 percent of the time. During those fateful final five innings, the Cardinals got to two strikes and promptly hit .312/.450/.562. And every single time the crowd rose to their feet in anticipation and weren't met with the satisfaction of a strikeout, the home team's lead felt smaller and smaller. By the end of the eighth, the crowd felt undeniably worried.

thats because he made mistakes beforehand with the staff, and if Espinosa turn the double play in the 6th, maybe we have Burnett as a back up?
Im still confused by the lack of Mattheus in this series.
And he overworked Storen. Man, I wont talk about it anymore. I cant.
Re: The Nats Thread (old thread link inside, too many load issues)
Are people seriously blaming Davy Johnson for this? The Nats was ONE strike away from winning. All they had to do is make one pitch. That's not on the manager.

Hindsight is 20/20. Do people think we would have been in the same spot if Riggleman was still managing? I mean Davey was manager of the year in the NL. I'm with you.
