I like Davey, but that doesn't mean he didn't screw up. He did.

huh?
you can say dude did a great job and still blame him. Storen lost the strike zone and was tired. He may have been tired from pitching an inning in an 8-0 drubbing.
Putting in Edwin Jackson was a mistake. In fact, not yanking Gio when he loaded the bases was a mistake, imo. You cant play around with this in October.
But saying Davey messed up doesnt mean I, or anyone else, wants the guy fired.

I didn't say he lost us the series did I? Did anyone? That doesn't negate that it was foolish to go into the 9th without any backup pitcher ready. Storen was on his third game in a row and walked two batters in a row.

Has it really gotten to the point where one negative comment about one specific decision means you hate someone or blame him for an entire downfall?
Re: The Nats Thread (old thread link inside, too many load issues)
shoot, even if you want to look at just the 9th inning in isolation, why wasnt Kozma intentionally walked with the Motte due up next?
You walk Motte and then the Cardinals bring up a pinch hitter, their closer is out of the game. GRRRR

Hindsight is 20/20. Should Ron Washington be blamed because his pitchers couldn't record one strike, TWICE in last year's WS? It all boils down too, the Nats pitchers had one strike to record and didn't get the job done.

Lol, the hindsight is 20/20 thing is bull**** when I'm sure most of us were clamoring for these moves before the outcome was decided.
Re: The Nats Thread (old thread link inside, too many load issues)
agree with sticks, when you have the closer up to bat, you force him to beat you or at least you get rid of him so that you dont have to play against him in the bottom of the inning
Re: The Nats Thread (old thread link inside, too many load issues)
I think you might want to read some of comments made by Cardinals players..............

you do realize the game went from 6-0, 9-7, no?
there were many things that happened before that lead to that point.
Davey is not immune to criticism. No one is.

Like it says at the end, one slider a hair closer to the zone and the discussion is moot.

In the fourth and fifth innings, Gio Gonzalez, the Nationals’ de facto ace with Stephen Strasburg in the dugout, allowed three runs while walking four. One unnamed player said to Miklasz, “Gio looked like he didn’t want to be out there. The guy has a 6-0 lead, then 6-1, and he’s panicking out there. We smelled blood.”
I've said it many times: it's all about the killer instinct. That's what separates a champion from the pack. You have to have that killer instinct. The Cardinals have it. The Nats don't...yet.
