Re: 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread
Holy **** that was incredibly intense!
For everyone discounting GT, I think they are a lock for 2nd in the division. I'm convinced Bud Foster found a way around the offense that other teams will not find with one week of prep as opposed to a full summer. Their go ahead score was because of a blown punt, which hopefully doesn't happen again, but I'm sure GT can run it up on a LOT of other teams.

Funny 'cause they're probably gonna join GT out of the top 25 soon. Can't wait to see FSU choke their way to #20+ ranking again this year.
Re: 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread
I'm a UVA fan..but Kyshoen Jarrett can hit for a guy under 200.He sent at least 2 players out of the game.
Re: 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread
Typical first game of the season for VT.
Offense sucked, D played well, glad to get rid of GT early in the year and move on with the schedule.
Offense will get on track in early October, VT will go 10-2 and now I have my ticket booked for the ACCCG where we'll play FSU/Clemson.
And yes, the Coastal division race is over. VT owns UVA, Miami sucks, Duke isn't going to do anything and UNC is a program in shambles in the post Butch era.

Always anxious about playing GT, they play us tough. Last time, at Lane, it came down to that Wilson return for a Touchdown. This time, overtime. Tough opponent
Not sure if this team has enough to beat FSU or Clemson, but we'll see as the season progresses. Still early, great win. Can't sleep now :(
Re: 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread
It's funny listening to all the VT haters. If winning 10+ in the ACC is so easy, why doesn't media darling FSU win 10+ every year?
And outside NCSU playing Tenn and Clemson playing Auburn in Georgia, no other ACC school played a team worth a damn. Elon? William & Mary? Richmond? Murray St? Liberty? FIU?
VT is a small town school doing things the right way. Why do they get the hate?
EDIT: I fully expect Sparty will stop by eventually and lecture us on why THIS Jimbo Fisher team will finally return to dominance

edit: and GT scores. They're back on top.
I simply stated VT is not a top 5 team. But they will always be in the top 10 because of playing in the ACC. Unlike FSU which starts int he top 10 and ends up almost out of the rankings.
And keep haning your hat on the past, I'm sure it'll help you guys win another National Championship soon... Can't wait to see how Dumbo fisher and FSU plans to fail this year.

That may very well happen, but from those two schools perspective, VA Tech didn't look very intimidating tonight.
I'm a JMU guy so I'm use to college football futility.

They never do (on opening night). That's my whole problem with Beamer. Never prepared for the season openers and this year is no different.

The only reason people hate them is because they 1) can't win championships and 2) choke every year and 3) have a bandwagon fanbase. 2 of those are pretty valid, but the strong fanbase in Virginia / DMV area is no reason to hate.

I notice its usually from people who a) don't cheer for FBS programs at all or b) just trolls.
What I find interesting is people I know who went to SEC schools or Big 10 schools like OSU really don't care about Virginia Tech either way. They have real programs.
This team is what it has been the last decade, a pretty good 10-2 team at the fringe of the top 10. I don't see how its "overhyped or overrated." In fact, we generally end up outranking our preseason rank, if anything VT is usually underrated
Tonight was the typical first game of the season in a Beamer era, boring sloppy offense, terrific D, and a tough opponent.

You just won a Nat'l Championship a couple years ago. And expanded the stadium. And will jump to big time CFB. Be proud man!

I found myself cursing in a chat repeatedly about how badly the offense was playing until the 4th. How much longer until Stinespring goes? I'm tired of seeing this offense falter and fail repeatedly.
They didn't even do anything until the playbooks were opened a bit and Logan explored downfield. And that was in the 4th. I can't wait for the day when VT joins the 21st century and uses a spread offense.

The team is prepared fine, its just that there are always enough new guys in young spots to make it a test. We have only lost 4 games in November since 2004.

For a VT guy you should know that Stiney doesn't call the plays anymore.
And we were using the Pistol O. I just didn't see a point in having TE's out there.

VT will likely have the #1 D in the ACC, even though FSU gets all the cred. The dine is 8 deep, the secondary has unreal athletes, and the LBers are good. Foster thinks this D has the chance to be the bet D in school history.
