I agree with DG in theory about trading down but for me if RG III lobbies for Terrance Williams if he's there, I'd pull the trigger. He's big, he has speed and the key is he has instant chemistry with RG 3. Even on twitter, as to Williams and RG III you can see those guys are close and chat. I watched most of the 2011 Baylor games -- those guys were magic with each other.
As I said earlier, I got no doubt there will be a surprise WR at our pick. It's just too deep a pool. The numbers just don't add up for all the WRs we are hyped about to be gone. Pretty much every draft some Wrs fall later than expected.

I'd agree with that. If Shanny isn't enamored with him, he won't pull the trigger based on a player recommendation. But if Shanny is enamored and assuming RG III kicks in about his chemistry -- then I'd assume it would be tempting. Actually, Shanny likely doesn't need to hear a word from RG III, am sure he watched the 2011 Baylor games a gazillion times.

No doubt. That offense was wide open and had a lot of fire power.
Who would you pick from the list below?
DL Slyvester Williams/DL Kawann Short/WR Quin Patton/WR Terrance Williams/S Matt Elam/S Eric Reid/S Phillip Thomas
Re: 2013 Comprehensive NFL Draft Database
As I replied earlier in this thread, Stedman Bailey from WVU should be a consideration. He might make it to the 3rd round. IF we do trade down in the 2nd round and I'm not apposed to that at all, Bailey brings decent size, great hands and very good route-running ability and to me would be a steal in the 3rd round IF we could draft him there.

Assuming he could learn an NFL route tree and all the other nuances quickly.. he'd have instant chemistry with RG3.. RG3 knows his tendencies/how he plays.. he might put the passing game over the top when him, Garcon, Morris/Helu Moss and Hank on the field.... imagine the possibilities!

I not convinced Elam is a better FS than what we could get later. It would be hard to not take Short.....I think he would make our DB's better.
Do u take T.Williams over Hopkins???

I'd go Eric Reid -- can cover very well, can defend the run very well. He'd not only shore up a weakness but also likely allow them to be more creative in coverages and disguising them.
Re: 2013 Comprehensive NFL Draft Database
What do you guys think of Marcus Davis VA Tech?

No doubt Reid is good but to me Elam was more consistent. Reid splash plays were down in 2012 vs. 2011. I think he needs to improve his pass coverage skills.

He's a big receiver with decent speed. He finished the year just under 1000 yds. receiving. To me, he didn't fair to well in the Senior Bowl. It could be because of weak QB play. I think he will be drafted somewhere between the 4th/5th rounds.

Can't argue Reid's skill but trading back for P. Thomas wouldn't be a bad move IMO.

IMO its Elam not Reid who needs to improve their pass coverage skills. Elam strikes me as a beast of a hitter Laron Landry style -- lethal in stopping the run, the draft geek scouts for the most part worry about him in pass coverage.

I'd be OK with that. In John Keim's email report, he asks Russ Lande, ex NFL scout for his take on the safeties. Cliff notes version -- he loves Vaccaro. He seems to have big concerns about McDonald and Shawn Williams and to a degree Jefferson. He seems to like everyone else to different degrees, thinks Duke Williams is the big diamond in the rough who could be the surprise stud of the mix. This is in order of where he thinks he will be drafted.
2. Eric Reid -- "he will be the next guy picked after Vaccaro" "he's a tremendous athlete." "He flies around the field. "He has great range" I'd like to see more consistency" Mid to late first round
3. Matt Elam: "he's the old school close to the line of scrimmage safety" "this kid has issues in coverage" "he's a physical player." Great special teams player. 2nd round
4. Cyprien: "he has nice feet and can peddle and change direction" "he can be a box guy but he can cover" "At the Senior Bowl people were shocked at hoe easily moved and his range." 2nd round
5. Rambo: "he's an athletic kid and he can run" "he has great coverage skills" he didn't specify what round
6. Jefferson "he can hit but misses a ton of tackles" He often seems lost in coverage. Overall, he thinks he will pan out because of his athleticism. 2nd or third round
7. Phillip Thomas "Good at everything but not elite at any one thing" "He's effective in coverage. He's not Ed Reed" "workman like starter" "he will have some trouble with really fast guys" 2nd or third round
8. TJ McDonald "I am not a big fan of him" "When you put the game film on he's a disappointment." He says he totally looks the part but plays erratically. 2nd or 3rd round.
9. David Amerson "if you want a real athletic safety who is willing to hit, he could be the sleeper safety of the draft." He seems to think he will be a better safety than corner because of his lack of great speed. 2nd or 3rd round
10. Shawn Williams "He's freaky smart" "He has the intangibles. The leadership" "The problem is he's not very good" "He's not natural in terms of football." 3rd round
11 Duke Williams "the kid who might end up being the best of all of them" "He's a violent player. he flies up the field" "he can move around. he's a smart kid" 3rd to 5th round
12. DJ Swearinger "he has great range and versatility" "I like him" "He's very intriguing." 4th round[COLOR="Gold"]
Re: 2013 Comprehensive NFL Draft Database
Anyone else notice how much Kiper seems to hate Geno Smith? McShay has him going to the Bills at 8, but Kiper doesn't have him, or any other QB, in the 1st.
If Kiper is right, it'd be the first time since 2008 a QB wasn't selected 1st, the first time since 2000 one wasn't selected in the top 3, and the 1st time since '96 that one wasn't picked in the 1st round at all.
I concur this class is somewhat weak, but I don't think it's really that bad, especially because teams are desperate. Of course, that might work to our advantage, in general Smith was the only 1st round QB expected to come off the board, if teams wait, there might be a run on QBs in the 2nd round, pushing some of that early 2nd round talent down to us.

Part of me thinks Kiper just wants to be a contrarian.
The closer we get to the draft, the more the quarterbacks will be pushed up in the first round. Some team will panic and pick a guy early, because there's no guarantee if you sit around and wait until the second your guy is going to be there. I think Mike Glennon and Tyler Wilson will be in the first round conversation by time it's all said and done.
Oh. And that Barkley guy.

thomas will a quick gate release 10 and 20 yard splits must have been incredible. wheaton with sustained and increasing speed, tracked and reeled him - ran down thomas with the long range.

Re: 2013 Comprehensive NFL Draft Database
With Marcus Davis what you see is a freak of nature athlete who just isn't a very good WR. Now can he develop? Certainly, but some team is going to over draft him for his tools
