This has been a hellish beginning to the season. It's not surprising we look talent drained when all of our best players are getting hurt. Losing our LT and #1 receiver this early in the year doesn't bode well. Losing four starters from the defense, ugh.
What happened to Willie Smith? Why is Jordan Black our backup OT? Also what's the status on Trent's injury, anyone know?
I actually thought Willie played pretty damn well for a UDFA but he obviously did'nt improve.
Its gonna be a hard pill to swallow when the Rams are useing our top 10 pick but we had to do it I suppose.
This team needs secondary help bigtime and the o-line has been a constant problem. We will hopefully get atleast 1 starter maybe 2 out of the draft. Not sure whats available on the FA market or even what kinda money we have available but at this rate RG3 is gonna be crippled soon.

Willie looked ROUGH in TC and preseason, and he was the last OT cut I believe. Chose Black over him.
Signed off waivers by OAK, Willie played 40 snaps agains MIA last week at RT after Khalif Barnes suffered a groin injury.
He started today against the Steelers and I believe gave up a sack to Lamar Woodley in the first half.

Slim pickings on OL in FA - I always kinda like Geoff Schwartz when he was with CAR, and will be FA after signing a 1 year deal in MIN. But he's never been able to stay healthy
King George native and resident Jermon Bushrod is also a FA, but foresee him getting a whopper of a contract that is not reflective of his true skill.
In the secondary, Brent Grimes is the big name who was in line for the $50 MM contract pre-achilles tear. He'll still get paid well as the top CB. Tracy Porter is probably the next best guy.
We think Tanard will be on the team next year? Otherwise, its pretty slim pickings at FS as well, although I like the Steelers young back up Ryan Mundy.

What do you all think of Desmond Trufant, Corner from Washington? He seems like he is very underrated

Its alot of Secondary in next FA. And OLine help too.
Re: 2013 Comprehensive NFL Draft Database
I see this is for next years draft, so... anybody heard of Jake Brent? He's a tackle at Shenandoah University who got interest from Division 1 schools but didn't have the grades. He's coached by Joe Jacoby and is the same size as he played at.
Late round pick or UDFA?

Always thought he was an okay CB, never really impressed when when I watched him.

Sure, why not? We need all the help we can get along the OL.
The way things are looking after today's game, our rookie sensation is in serious danger of getting killed out there if we don't make investments to put real professionals on the OL.
Re: 2013 Comprehensive NFL Draft Database
Thinking about starting a thread in ATNFL about this:
Who do you all think is the greatest active player in the NFL?
My answer is Adrian Peterson.

Anyone else noticing that the best QBs in the NFL have been losing so far, by and large?

Ed Reed for me. Just been one of the most dominant defenders. Could say Manning, Brady, Ray Lewis as other options as well. I'd put Peterson there but just not right now
Re: 2013 Comprehensive NFL Draft Database
While watching the lousy performance from the OL I couldn't help but think of the many personnel mistakes this FO has made when it comes to OL.
Re: 2013 Comprehensive NFL Draft Database
The past few years our needs list has been pretty much everything. i feel like since we have a few things sured up to an acceptable level like QB, WR, Front 7, maybe even RB.....there will be more time available to extensively scout our two most blatant needs OL and the secondary. which also hopefully improves the quality of player we get.
Re: 2013 Comprehensive NFL Draft Database
Has anyone seen Bacarri Rambo safety at UGA play ? I saw his stats and measurables and they are intriguing
Re: 2013 Comprehensive NFL Draft Database
There will be absolutely NO elite secondary talent available in the 2nd RD this year. With such a need for elite secondary players now, driven by a passing league, the best ones are almost all gone within the top 15 picks. I don't mean to be a pessimist, I just got put in that kind of mood today.
Maybe we can trade Orakpo and get back in the first round and get David Amerson. He's the RG3 of CBs. Look him up.

Lots of good CBs in FA next year. I might go for Jerraud Powers and Will Middleton. Could probably get both with the cap space from releasing Hall.. And I love Kenny Philips, would love to get him at S.
As for OL, the Chiefs need to decide whether to tag Bowe or Brandon Albert. If it was Bowe, I'd go hard for Albert. Make him the LT and Trent the RT. Not because I think there's a problem with Trent, but I think Albert's better and that would give us a sick pair of bookends, with the added depth of Trent being the back-up LT. Probably never happen, but I can dream.

As an NC State fan, I disagree about Amerson. That tennessee game alone probably murdered any chance he had of going top 10. It was, without a doubt, one of the worst performances a corner could have had. He's still an intercepting machine, but I don't know if he has the speed to play corner in the nfl. He was burned constantly by tennessee, and it's not like their guys have elite speed either.
There should be a lot of good talent in the secondary available in the second round, especially if we're settling for an early 2nd round pick. Between Banks, Amerson, and Millener I think this corner class has better high end talent than last year's, those 3 should all go round 1. That's not even counting a darkhorse like Matheau somehow declaring for the draft. At safety it is absolutely overloaded. Between Reid, Jefferson, Lester, Vaccaro, McDonald, Rambo, and Williams you have 7 guys who, imo should go in the top 2 rounds. That's a pretty good class right there if they all declare, and any of them likely upgrade our current starters.
