Re: Does Rob Jackson make Orakpo expendable?
Jackson earned himself a nice extension this season.
He's not the pass rusher Orakpo is, but he makes up for it elsewhere. Rak and Kerrigan should still start next season, but Jackson will do great in nickle packages. Maybe run some 1-5-5 nickle or drop Riley or Fletcher out. That way, we have our two best pass rushers in Kerrigan and Orakpo, and we'll have great coverage LBs.
Re: Does Rob Jackson make Orakpo expendable?
If anyone needs their snaps cut down, it's Kerrigan. I know he hasn't missed a snap but there are times during the game where he looks worn out. Let Jackson and/or Alexander get some of those snaps.

bump so this argument gets taken out of the Free Agency Thread

That was my fault. It flared up when I suggested Rak for Revis. HAHA
Dare to dream.

Haha - nothing wrong with that - people just kept on and on after that. I say just keep him and utilize both, Jackson is stronger in pass coverage while Orakpo is the better rusher - if Jackson loses a few pounds and can get in the 250 range then I don't see why he couldn't be a viable option to replace Fletch
Re: Does Rob Jackson make Orakpo expendable?
Rob Jackson is better in coverage and is a better pass rusher than Kerrigan. Does that make Kerrigan expendable?

I'd say it makes Fletcher expendable. Maybe not this year, but if (as most expect) Fletcher retires at the end of this year (2013), then we should at least give Jackson a shot in the middle. I hope he gets some play inside this year. Maybe he can make a move like Alexander did, and given that Alexander won't (or likely won't) be back, maybe Jackson can be the guy to take his spot as the backup MLB this year.

There is no possible way you could stick Rob Jackson at ILB and expect him to do anything in coverage. Coverage responsibilites for OLB in a 3-4 are vastly different. It's mostly short zones and the flats.

You can't count him out til you try it. Lorenzo just made the move from outside to inside. Antonio Pierce also made the move. I don't think its unheard of, especially since we're talking so much about Jackson's good coverage skills. Those aren't generally what we look for in our OLB, or in a 3-4 OLB in general. Generally 3-4 OLBs are speed rushers who are there to generate sacks. I have yet to see one reason as to why this shouldn't be done other than because it hasn't been done. I hope that the Skins are at least considering this option though because I think it would make best usage of Jackson's skills.

All I can say about that is BS. Kerrigan is a better pass rusher than Jackson.

So then, by default, Rak is a better pass rusher than Jackson, correct? (And I honestly am asking your opinion here, as I'm not familiar with it...)

Kerrigan had trouble beating RTs and he wasn't doubled as much as some people like to claim. I was surprised at how easy Sean Locklear handled him. He has trouble getting to the edge. That makes him susceptible to getting gashed in the run game when he overcompensates for that issue. I thought Rob Jackson was more effective against LTs in his limited opportunities. Just my humble opinion.

Sign 'em all and let Haslett figure it out. :)
