When I first came to ES, the board was quite right leaning. It seems when the tough gets going the conservatives get going to another board ;)
It can be a little rough, but I like debate. Some of the rhetoric is way over the top. I figure if I present facts and my point of view that I can learn from them and they can learn from me. Mind you, I'm not sure how much they can hear me sometimes with all the shouting.

All three will get done out of political necessity.

Yahoo: FBI, CIA face questions about Petraeus affair
Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The career of David Petraeus, the CIA director and a renowned military general, was derailed by allegedly vicious emails his paramour sent to another woman. Now the CIA, FBI and White House face questions from Congress about Petraeus' love life and how his emails came under investigation.
Petraeus quit his post Friday after acknowledging an extramarital relationship.

Oh, goody. Congress has decided to investigate people for having an affair.

Yahoo: Florida Gov. Rick Scott says no to health care law
Quote:
Florida Republican Gov. Rick Scott says he will not implement the state health insurance exchanges mandated in the 2010 federal health care law despite President Barack Obama's re-election.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports:
Quote:
Speaking on the New College of Florida campus following a meeting of the state's university governing board, Scott said it will cost taxpayers and business owners too much to expand Medicaid and set up health insurance exchanges as called for under the law.
"No one has been able to show me that that health care exchange is going to do anything rather than raise taxes, raise the cost of our companies to do business," Scott said, adding that expanding Medicaid would also require tax increases.
Scott is one of many Republican governors who have resisted the state programs required by the law before Election Day, but he's the first to voice continued resistance after the election.

Gee, I wonder what these stories say, about the topic of the thread?

I haven't given up representing the right Burg! Afterall someone has to keep the board from listing hopelessly and endlessly left. I do agree that at times the board devolves into shouting matches or many members simply talking past each other to get points across/heard. It doesn't always feel like it's productive but you take the good with the bad. You've always been a poster who seems to be able to hear the other side and keep emotions in check. I don't agree with you often but I respect you always. Ok, now time to post again in the media bias thread! ;)

I would say the board is about Huffington Post level, not quite DailyKos but the posts from there are tripling, whereas a few years ago people would point out MotherJones is not to post from as if it was Neutral.

I suppose it would be silly to ask you to back up your claim with some actual facts, wouldn't it?

It's interesting. Under GW Bush when the economy started to show trouble in 2007, the new Democratic House under that evil Nancy Pelosi passed a stimulus to try to help the economy and the President. And nevermind your feelings about its effectiveness or the effectiveness of stimulus in general, because thats beside the point
if the Republicans could pass a bill to destroy the American Economy and pin it on Obama they would do it in a second. Tells you all you need to know. No wonder they lost the election and will most likely be extinct in 20 years. The country is determined to move on without them.

I think some people had issue with how and where that stimulus money went to. People want to feel there was at least some value employed in the aftermath of firing up the fiscal printing presses. The economy over the next 4 years make put the brakes to people's elation over Obama's win. The numbers weren't a rebuke of either party. If the economy continues to tank I don't see any love for either party from the people at large.

There are people out there who really think more spending is what's needed...incredibly. I don't know why Greece can't be used as a warning sign for us. Or Spain. All we're doing now is delaying the pain that's sure to come.

I actually think the only ones proposing more spending was the Romney campaign and their defense increases. Everyone else seems to be on board with a deficit reduction plan that involves spending cuts, though it's yet to be seen whether the GOP will agree to modest tax increases on the wealth to go with the cuts.

No way in hell.
The main reason this board seems so left leaning is the fact that the GOP has been overtaken by the relgious right and/or Tea Party and has driven more moderate people like myself away. I've voted Republican in the past but it's becoming increasingly difficult for me to even stomach the thought of voting for anybody associated with the party.

As I stated before, where the Republicans SHOULD obstruct (the drone policy in particular) they are noting more then rubber stamps. The process of developing the secret kill lists should be investigated, who is being targeted and how should be investigated, and why drones are such a tool used by this administration to wage undeclared wars SHOULD be obstructed.
Instead its a rubber stamp. And ultimately the President controls things like drones, foreign policies, law enforcement, the military far more then he does an economy. And Republicans have sat on the sideline
