I'm going to add that I don't know why people keep saying he isn't a #1 receiver. What exactly is their definitions of a #1 WR? He was signed to start, play the X and be the go-to guy. He's been a #2 with Wayne already intrenched as the #1. Can someone name a player on our roster to be #1? And don't say that we don't have a #1, because we do. He wears #88. He already had established himself in preseason and in the Saints game that he was the #1 WR.

Being injured doesn't mean bust. When I think of bust, it's a guy like Jamarcus Russell. Garcon has proven he can play in this league. He's not a bust, he just has a freak injury.

If we have turned the corner as a franchise, getting rid of Garcon would be a positive statement. You can't help the team? Go somewhere else.
1) We could not just outright cut him, taking a tremendous cap hit.
2) Give the guy a chance to get on the damn field. It's not like a hit himself in the toe with a hammer and told the staff, "I'm not playing this year, just here to collect a check, don't mind me."
3) When you get home, drive a nail through your second toe and see how much pain you can endure. Then go out and play some football after you do that. Having an injury on your foot is worse than a knee. The feet take the brunt of the whole stress from the body.

Garcon said, per USA TODAY Sports. “It’s not 100%. It’s a pain all the time. Walking, running, cutting. All the time. I’ll probably have to deal with it the rest of my life. “I never really want to get surgery unless it’s a must. The surgery is not guaranteed to fix it, so that’s another thing. I’ve never had surgery. If I have to get surgery, I’ll get it, but they’ll have to put me under for a long time and do it while I’m not paying attention at all.”
:ols::ols: Sounds like he's actually petrified at going under the knife! What a girl. I've had 10 surgeries in my life. Man up Garcon. :ols::ols:
Re: Is Garcon situation shaping up to be Coles 2.0?
I think 88 sees the field on Sunday and makes some plays. Get in there young man!
In other injury news...what's the scoop on Meriweather? And dare I ask...Jammal Brown? :)
Re: Is Garcon situation shaping up to be Coles 2.0?
I hope he gets well, but everything I read basically says that surgery cannot even guarantee the problem is fixed and may be a lingering thing for a long time. PJ, when I refer to bust I mean bust in the sense that we spent a ton of cash for no return. He has talent and can play, no doubt, but to this point was not a good decision. Bust maybe a bad term because busts conjure up images of Ryan Leaf, Tony Mandarich and Jamarcus Russell.
Hopefully he gets back and is a star with the organization for a long long time. (although I dont think he plays again this year)

Now try thinking of him saying this with Roseanne Barr's voice.
Re: Is Garcon situation shaping up to be Coles 2.0?
He's not playing this year...I'm not getting my hopes up. If he does, he won't be that effective anyway
Re: Is Garcon situation shaping up to be Coles 2.0?
Ahmad Bradshaw deals w/ a chronic foot problem. Hinders his practice time greatly, but he's out there for games. Might be the path Garcon is going to take.
Re: Is Garcon situation shaping up to be Coles 2.0?
Looks like Garcon is simply unable to play thru pain.
Just get the surgery. He'll be useless playing in pain.

He tweeted yesterday that surgery may not resolve the problem, no guarantee and he has never had surgery and is very apprehensive to get it done. My fear is that this now is a chronic condition. He has rested it for 6 weeks and it is still not better....IMO not a good sign. Although he did some light work yesterday at practice

In theory, with Garcon we'd have a more threatening offense because he can run more routes, particularly the deep route. We're so good with running the ball that having a legit deep threat (who catches the ball) would open it up even more and they'd have to respect it.
What I worry about even if he does come back is how effective he'd be and how much he'd be setting himself back just to get on the field. I have a feeling that our front office is telling him some of the things that Skins fans are saying....things like, "if he makes all that money he needs to be on the field". I hope he doesn't feel this way and rush his injury. I have no evidence to back this up, but I think that's one of the reasons this team seems cursed with injuries - because we don't let them fully heal because we put so much pressure on our starters to play every game. Thats my theory and I haven't seen it anywhere else, but I think about it with Orakpo, Kelley, Landry, Cooley, in the NBA, Arenas and Nene. Thats why I respect so much what the Nationals did with Straus, let him know that even if they don't win it THIS year, they're looking at a 10-15 year investment in the guy not some one year postseason success. That's the same thing I'd want from Orakpo/Garcon/RG3/etc.
Unfortunately, with Shanny trying to salvage his reputation in DC, we're putting our QB out there a week after having a concussion and sending him deep to get lit up by a safety, and sending him on runs up the middle to get his ribs cracked, and we keep sending him out there. Totally different philosophy.

It also limits the number of plays Bradshaw can get. They try to keep around 16 carries or less for him. Bradshaw's injury is not a plantar plate tear, it seems, hence that might be why he can play on it. Also, running backs run through holes to get yards. Receivers make their living by first getting open and then having the qb throw it to them. Not going to work if a crui

What I am irked by is the absoluste ignorance as to what Garcon's injury is and the absolute callousness in some fans egging him on to keep on playing when they likely have none of the intestinal fortitude to play through the injury if it occured to them. All they have to do is simply stick a knife up right up the base of their second toe and get some sense of what a torn plantar plate(which is actually a ligament) can debilitate someone.
And here's a video depicting complete rupture. http://www.rifootcare.com/plantar-plate-function.html

Even Leonard Hankerson had his surgery in Feburary because he or the FO guys hoped that his hip could heal without it. He sustained his injury many weeks before and they were still hoping such a severe injury could heal on its own. That deserves a facepalm.
Re: Is Garcon situation shaping up to be Coles 2.0?
Maybe someone could show Garcon the movie 'Misery' and make him feel at least mentally better!
Oh, right, thats baseball...:silly:
Re: Is Garcon situation shaping up to be Coles 2.0?
People here may disagree, but that 88 yard run after the catch TD showed that Garcon was worthy or being labeled a #1 WR.

.
From what I have read it is very painful and can last a long time. I am sure that PG wants to get out play with Griffin throwing him balls as bad as we want him out there. If we cant go he cant go. My bigger concern is with our training staff getting him better. The track record is not great with these lingering type injuries. This may just be something that he has to deal with. Just crappy luck to have this pop up year one of a big contract when no prior history of this issue.
