And it's BS because most of Luck's key contributors on offense are also rookies. And unheralded rookies, at that (mostly).
And you don't think Luck is a ROY candidate, yet people like Steve Mariucci (Michael Irvin, too) think he's an MVP candidate? Hmm...[COLOR="Gold"]
Of course Mariucci and Irvin think Luck is a OROTY candidate - He is a number one pick he moves into the shoes of one of the best of all time, he was billed as the best QB to come out of collage EVER . - but are you doing the thinking or are you just going off what other people think ...?
When you say it is complete BS that they are winning because of they added other than luck you loose credibility .
Their defense is playing a lot better - On offense they have scored more than 30 points twice all season - on defense they have held their opponents to 20 points or less 6 times and won every game they have done so ( we have held opponents to less than 20 points twice all season ).... So what position does Luck play on D ? Jerrell Freeman has been an absolute beast and a hell of a find from the CFL . - He is a new addition - but his name is not Luck so he and the rest of the defense have no part in the wins ...
Their special teams - TY Hiltion has one PR for a TD in the Bills game - which was the difference in the game at the gun . He has been a demon on special teams and contributes on the offense, plus you have Adam Vinatieri possibly the most clutch kicker in the NFL contributing to their wins too ...
Finally on offense you have Reggie Wayne - even with the likes of Kerry Collins and Curtis Painter throwing to him Wayne had a 900+ yard season with 4TDs - To date he has over 1100 yards, 3 TDs and is number 2 in the NFL in terms of yards and No 1 in terms of receptions . (in contrast going into this game Moss has less than 500 yards and is our leading pass catcher - so Griffin is making his passing game go with much less than Luck has or Had - Even Garcon was the No.3. on the Colts before coming here)
Luck is playing well for a Rookie - in spots . He has great leadership and an none stop motor - but when you compare Luck to RGIII - and for the purpose of the ROY that is all you are looking at they are not in the same ball park . Luck throws a lot so his passing numbers are elevated - but he does not score that much more than the likes of RGIII or Wilson (Wilson leads all rookies) . I have not watched Wilson but right now statistically Wilson is the guy who should be in the ROY conversation with RGIII .
The problem I have with Luck in the ROY discussion is he is a big reason the team has to make the 4th Q come backs .. and he is the big reason that the Jets & Patriots destroyed the Colts ... Kudos for him in bringing the teams back, but like Jake "the Snake" Plumber - the wins are tempered by the fact he caused the problems in the first place....You have to wonder which is more sustainable against tougher opposition - almost 2 turnovers per game or winning > 80% of his close games . It will be interesting to see how he plays over then next two divisional games ..
I am happy to give credit to Luck where it is deserved - and it is deserved - I imagine he will win Rookie of the week, this week - although Wilson again is possibly as deserving of it . RGIII lead the Skins to a gritty win (at home) against the Superbowl champions (and division leaders) - An important win - but a team win .

man, rg3 really had an off night. 101.9 qb rating. literally sub-par for him. so lucky morris was there to bail him out. what is luck's rating again? 77?
Re: The Official RGIII Rookie of The Year Watch Thread
NFL PrimeTime is discussing the rookie QBs now...:ols:
Tebow needs to kick someone's dog or something. All this Luck-Griffin III talk is overkill.

Dude, you can't use traditional stats with a traditional passer like Luck!

hahah its pretty wild to realize that a ROOKIE qb with a 101.9 rating is below his average for the season. Griff is the real effin deal boys and girls!

Luck lovers will stick with the record, and the yardage arguments. I've heard of few biased opinions try to compare their rushing stats from the TD category alone thinking that his 5 to Bobs 6 which according to them means Luck is a rushing QB.
In the end I feel Luck will win if he gets to the playoffs. Interesting stat I've never seen a team that's 8-4 and are being outscored by their opponents by 54 pts. That means they are skating by in their wins and don't belong on the field with their opponents when they lose. It is what it is.
Re: The Official RGIII Rookie of The Year Watch Thread
Is there a Badass of the Year award that Morris can win?
Re: The Official RGIII Rookie of The Year Watch Thread
Alfred Morris and RG3 in the same draft class in going to be a godsend for us for quite awhile. Don't forget another young player who's been clutch all (well half-ish) year for us though, Kai Forbath. We have some solid young talent, but RG3 is without a doubt the ROTY. He is redefining the way the QB position can be played at an NFL level.
Re: The Official RGIII Rookie of The Year Watch Thread
Isnt Luck leading the nfl in turnovers? With four games in the 3+ turnover range? Hardly in the ROY debate when you have a guy like RG3 breaking records and Russel Wilson beating playoff teams while both protecting the ball. Dont get me wrong Luck has a lot of wins, but outside of beating the Packers all the other Ws are single score games against basement teams nowhere near playoff contention. The bears, jets, and pats defense made him look like a 6th round pick, lets see what he does against the texans twice before he gets anywhere near the ROY award. Id like to see the colts make the playoffs in their turnaround season, but unfortunately it wont be the jags/titans/browns/dolphins/chiefs/bills waiting for them in round 1.

He pooped on the argument for RG3 being a better QB than Luck. He talked about Griffin throwing a league high percentage of his passes behind the line of scrimmage. That's about the only point he made against Griffin.
Re: The Official RGIII Rookie of The Year Watch Thread
Who the hell is Rick Riley?
Re: The Official RGIII Rookie of The Year Watch Thread
I wish both Luck and Griffin could get it. They both changed their franchises instantly for the better
Re: The Official RGIII Rookie of The Year Watch Thread
Why not do co-rookie of the years? They're both deserving of it.

I agree. It would be a real shame that one of them would be left in the cold with how well they have performed.
