hahaha. What we've been very good at is finding guys who aren't "known studs" who are still young and entering their prime. I have full faith that we'll do the same this year. This Corey Lynch has me very interested. Greg Toler would make me smile. We still have 5 picks in the first 5 rounds. We'll put a good team on the field. There is no reason not to believe that.
Oh, and Holy ****, bro, congrats on 19,000 posts! I always click on the link when I see your name up.

No. However, keep in mind that money matters. I seem to remember, and if I'm wrong please refresh my memory, that Jenkins signed for a much heftier deal than Bowen did.

I'm not sure about the numbers, I think Jenkins got more more also. Bowens is not a pro-bowl player and Jenkins is not a free agent bust is my point.

And while that's valid, I'm not sure that was ever the point being made. I think it was more of a, "We could have paid more for Jenkins and gotten similar production, but our FO got it right and signed a similar guy from a production standpoint for less money. (And we don't know if Jenkins really would have produced the same in DC as he did in Philly, anyways. System differences and all).

The Eagles release Cullen Jenkins... Stephen Bowen has played at a Pro Bowl level for a 3-4 DE for the last two seasons. It was between those two during the crazy one week FA period we had.

Here are there contracts:
5 years 30 mil/Jenkins
5 years 27.5 mil/Bowen
There is no tangible way to say/know/prove how they would have played in different schemes.
From a skillset perspective I'm assuming we can agree that Cullens was considered the better pass rusher/penetrator?
I think Jenkins would have hit in perfectly here because he was coming from a similar scheme in Green Bay.

Bowen is 28
Jenkins is 32
Important to remember when comparing contracts. I like the Bowen signing better because he is cheaper and younger therefor less likely to fall off dramatically, but i would have been pleased had we signed Jenkins.

Oh, I hear yah.
Maybe I'm nit picking, but I gotta be honest about something when I disagree and I disagree with the characterization that Bowen is an all-pro and far and away a better player then Jenkins

Patriots | Aqib Talib could be transitioned
The New England Patriots could use the transition tag on free-agent CB Aqib Talib. It would save the team about $1.7 million.
Rams | Bradley Fletcher will not return
The St. Louis Rams will not re-sign free-agent CB Bradley Fletcher.
Rams | Steven Jackson will void contract
Updating an ongoing story, St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson will void the final year of his contract and test the free-agent market, according to sources. By voiding his contract, Jackson will save the Rams $7 million in salary and also helps avoid a potential PR backlash that could have occurred if the team had to release him.
FANTASY TIP: Jackson, who turns 30 years old this summer, is expected to look to play for a contender. The Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons appear to be high on the short list of teams that he could sign with, based on educated speculation. Stay tuned as this saga continues to play out. Jackson shouldn't be considered more than an RB2 in any fantasy league in 2013, regardless of where he lands.
Patriots | Talking extension with Wes Welker
The New England Patriots have begun talking about a contract extension with WR Wes Welker. These negotiations are independent of the negotiations with QB Tom Brady that led to a deal, but that contract freed up $15 million and gave both sides more room to work with in these talks.
Saints | No serious talks with Jermon Bushrod yet
New Orleans Saints impending free-agent OT Jermon Bushrod said there have not been any serious talks with the team about a new contract but he expects talks to become more serious in the near future.
Cowboys | Could consider releasing Gerald Sensabaugh
The Dallas Cowboys could consider releasing SS Gerald Sensabaugh this offseason in order to save $1.4 million in salary cap space. Sensabaugh's $3 million base salary for 2013 will become fully guaranteed if he is not the roster March 12.
49ers | Ted Ginn not a priority
The San Francisco 49ers are not expected to see re-signing impending free-agent WR Ted Ginn Jr. as a priority this offseason because WR Kyle Williams and RB LaMichael James can return punts.
49ers | Leaning toward no tag for Dashon Goldson
The San Francisco 49ers are leaning toward not placing the franchise tag on impending free-agent SS Dashon Goldson this offseason. The team may not be able to re-sign Goldson if he hits the free-agent market.

Derek Landri - DL - Eagles Free agent DT Derek Landri is not expected to re-sign with the Eagles.
Acting as a backup tackle, Landri managed just 39 tackles and two sacks over the last two seasons. The Eagles will move forward with Fletcher Cox, Cedric Thornton, and Antonio Dixon as their interior lineman in their new 3-4 or 4-3 "under" scheme. It's a position they're sure to add talent to via both the draft and free agency.

Nnamdi Asomugha - DB - Eagles The Philadelphia Inquirer reiterates that Nnamdi Asomugha appears "more likely to be released than kept."
Asomugha's player rep met with GM Howie Roseman at the Combine to discuss a possible contract restructuring, but it's unlikely that the two sides are going to find equal ground. Two years ago, Asomugha signed a five-year, $60 million contract and although he's struggled mightily, he could argue that the Eagles' "Wide Nine" scheme crippled him. A fresh start is probably a good thing for both parties here.

Ricky Jean-Francois - DL - 49ers The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Packers have expressed interest in free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois. (How Dare You, Fudge-Packers!)
Jean-Francois, 26, has started just five games since entering the league in 2009, but he was the top backup for the Niners at all three defensive line spots last year. Green Bay would likely give him a chance to start at right end with Jerel Worthy's (knee) season in doubt. San Francisco is expected to let Jean-Francois test the market, even though they would like to re-sign the run-stuffer. Related: Packers

No doubt that he would've fit in. But schematically Bowen is asked to stop the run and eat up blockers. If he gets to the QB (which he has) it's a plus and he's played very well at that.
Not saying that Jenkins is a bad player and not a pro bowler, I'm saying that he wanted too much money and that Bowen has panned out and has played better all around than Cullen.
EDIT: And just because that's what he got from the Eagles doesn't mean that he was asking the same amount from us. I think we all know better than that.

All around. Bowen rarely got shredded. The Wide 9 was shredded on the regular. Typically the Redskins only got gashed when Golston was in spelling Bowen.

Now that's a good way to start the day out right there (aside from the Packers poching on RJF). But it's still early on. Good news on the others. Hopefully this is less "dancing" and more actual news.

We are getting down to the wire so this should be actual news... Only about 2 weeks til FA begins and teams will be biting themselves if they have little cap and let their guys hit the market... People assume the Dolphins have a ton of cap, but in reality, they have a ton of quality FA's... They will likely be in a similar boat as all teams once they start resigning guys.
Hoping some news comes out soon for us on at least restructures... That Tom Brady news kills me. The league is looking in to it also, because the deal doesn't seem right. Damn cheaters.

Good. Czaban was talking about that this morning on 570 when I was driving to work. He said there is no way that this could be legit and even went with the ole' "This has to violete the 'spirit' of the cap somehow!"
I almost died laughing.

Yea, they turned his entire contract into a guarantee almost... It will affect the entire franchise tag for QB's by about a million dollars which affects Joe Flacco and others... Although paying Joe Flacco almost 20 million a year is laughable, he's still a middle class QB if not lower.
