Kinda Brilliant IMO, good way to beat our Cap Penalty, sign him as a coach and pay him top money. On game day we paint him white (beige if you really want to be technical) and have him wear Doughty's jersey.

Here's my thoughts on the RT situation from an ealier discussion:
I've been one of the staunchest proponents of strength through the trenches. But, based on what this FO has said/done at the RT position and considering the level of success the offense (4th in yards/5th in scoring) has with the current level of RT play (Tyler is terrible, near league worst) and given Mike Shanahan's history of mid/late round success with OL and given that the ZBS produces a unit that is better then the sum of its parts and given that Hurt/Compton are possible in house candidates: I don't think upgrading the RT spot requires using top level rounds resources(1-3) via the draft.

I keep on forgetting about Hurt. He has filled in fairly well when given the opportunity.

Yeah Hurt did decent from what I remember. I really hope they upgrade the RT position cause Polumbus would get beat badly sometimes, especially on those deeper pass plays

Well, they may decide to stay with Hurt/Compton combo as their RT's.

I am fine with that. I would actually prefer that since it would be in-house guys that were around during the 7-0 playoff run.

Given that Polumbus was a significant weakness, why was Compton still relegated to the bench? How much of an "upgrade" can he really be if he still cannot displace TP for the starting job after 4-5 months to learn the system? I'd be tickled pink if Compton turns out to be a stud RT, but the evidence (and votes of confidence via playing time) suggest otherwise.

What I wanted to say was a Steeler paper trade of Safety Mundy for Danny Smith

A unit's cohesion is more important than trying different things to see if they work better. Unless Polumbus was getting abused every game, which he wasn't, I don't think making a mid-season change would have been productive.

I get that, and initially thought it was that exact reason that bought Polumbus some time. But that reasoning would really only apply to players of similar ranking. Apparently Compton wasn't THAT much better than TP to justify the change. Polumbus was our biggest weakness, yet Compton couldn't out perform him in practice. Hell, Shanny yanked Donovan mid season and he was the QB. As much as I want to believe that our RT issues are solved, I don't think I can in good conscience.

Bowhunter, I agree about our RT position and my replies concerning it was trying to think of why Shanahan and Co. (along with the responses we have gotten from our Skinsiders) MIGHT be sticking with what is currently on our roster. RG3 is our most prized player. One would think getting the other bookend T (on the right side) would protect him and give him a better chance at longevity vs. w/o a proven stud RT. We already have our stud LT. JMO.

Couldn't agree more RWJ. I really want to have our answer in-house, and not have to spend a valuable pick or FA money on a RT. Part of me is giggly at the prospect of not having a glaring need along the O-line. I think Lerib step right at guard when his chance presents itself. But the other half of me wonders WHY during the bye week, when Coach spoke of evaluating our future, Compton couldn't break into the lineup. Maybe it had something to do with our lockerroom rally. Maybe coach wanted to show a sign of solidarity. I truly dunno. But Shanny has spoken before about fielding the best team, and rewarding those who out perform their brethren. That part has be just a bit hesitant to crown Compton as our next stud tackle.

Skins make a move: http://www.realredskins.com/rich-tan...on-lifted.html
Redskins cut cornerback D. J. Johnson, Black suspension lifted
Yesterday was the first day that NFL teams could waive players and the Redskins wasted no time in releasing defensive back Domonique “D. J.” Johnson.
The Redskins signed Johnson to their practice squad in Week 8 and moved him to the active roster in Week 10. He played mostly on special teams until nickel back Cedric Griffin was suspended for violation of the league’s PED policy. He played some nickel against the Ravens and Browns but he gave up a long touchdown pass against Cleveland and he played only sparingly after that.
Also, the suspension of tackle Jordan Black was lifted. He was the Redskins reserve tackle until he received a PED-related suspension with two games to go in the season. He is a free agent and the Redskins may or may not bring back the 33-year-old. If he does sign with any NFL team he will be able to participate fully in the offseason program, training camp and preseason games but he would be suspended for one regular season game.

It's easy to forget about Hurt considering how many players we have who are also.
