    Default Quick HD question.....

When a TV is labeled HD-ready, it means you have to buy an additional HD tuner to get the HD look, but does that include when watching DVDs, or is the HD tuner merely for HD programming being broadcasted?

I am thinking about buying an HD tv, but the cost is a bit out of my range, and I really think right now it is more cost effective for me to buy a high end analong, such as a Sony Trinitron 320 series, then spending up to $300 more for a LOW END HD tv. I guess also for me it is the fact that I am partial to sound. I like a good picture on the tv, but if I had to choose one over the other, I would rather spend more money on a surround sound system that rocks the room.

An HD tuner won't help you with DVD's. If you have cable, the tuner is a pretty small rental fee per month. With Directv, you will have to buy the tuner, but they are getting cheaper all the time.

As far as DVD's, if you have a progressive scan player or one that upconverts to HD resolution, the picture will look much better than it will on a non-hd set.

It is a waste to spend money on a good tv at this point and not go HD. Once you experience the quality, there is no going back.

As far as sound, HD programming has much better sound than non-hd programming. DVD's there is no difference. Most new tv's for the next model year come out right before summer, look for a good deal on a clearance one.
