    Default Frank Herzog

I love Frank and miss him calling the games.

Last night, after the Sports Reporters went off the air, I tuned in to WTOP. It was 7pm. After the national news the local anchors began to read the news of the day. I was only halfway listening when a familiar voice came on air. It was Frank! He was reading the damn news!

    WTF!!!

    When did THIS happen?!

What is going on a WUSA?! Have they just swallowed ALL the Kool-Aid and fired all the old-timers?

I hope Frank gets a better job soon. Not that WTOP is a slug, but jeez! He deserves better.

    To you Frank!

What's the difference between God and pilots?
    God doesn't think he's a pilot.

Taxiing down the tarmac, a DC-10 abruptly stopped, turned around and returned to the gate. After an hour-long wait, it finally took off. A concerned passenger asked the flight attendant, “What, exactly, was the problem?” “The pilot was bothered by a noise he heard in the engine,” explained the flight attendant. “It took us a while to find a new pilot.”

It is not the same Sonny, Sam, and Frank made the game worth listening to while turning the tv volume off

I agree, I don't listen nearly as much to their game broadcasts as I used too.

Frank was doing a Redskins post game show on WTEM 980 last season but it def. sucked not hearing him on the game broadcast.

Larry Michael is a corporate chimp!

I hope 980 brings him back again this season...

jeez, I mentioned this weeks ago.

WTOP is owned by the same parent company that owns Z104 FM.

Which, if everything goes right, will be switching to sportstalk sooner or later.

Larry Michael left WJFK for the Skins, but he still does the sames.

104 has a stronger signal than JFK.

104 is already doing some Nats games.

They are going to make a run at Skins games, and basically taking out 980.

This means Frank could or could no be involved with the Skins broadcast, but would have a big hand in DC FM sportstalk

    stay tuned.

I got a chance to personally talk to Frank Herzog the very moment that he lost his job in doing the Redskins game broadcasts. I was very honored when I talked to him. I left a message on his voicemail over at WUSA, and he returned my call and we had quite a nice conversation. He's actually supposed to give me a hollar whenever he and the wife come up to Alaska, and I'm going to personally give him a good tour of the sites up here, and good fishing holes and the like.

I miss him too. Its definitely not the same. Hopefully Larry Michael will be too busy giving Redskins.com plugs on those videos to be calling Redskins games this year, and we can get Frank back.

I'll take everyones word that Frank Herzog was a great play by play man. I don't really have much of an opinion on his abilities seeing as I never followed the Skins by way of the radio, except for in passing. With that said, I thought his post game show over on 980 paled in comparison to what 106.7 gave us. I found myself often disagreeing with the main portion of Frank's opening monologues and analysis. On the other hand I found Charles Mann to be quite informative and much more agreeable even if he did struggle to articulate himself at times.

    I wrote WTOP:

    Good Afternoon,

While listening to your broadcast last night a little after 7pm, I was stunned to hear Frank Herzog's voice! Wow! When did that happen? Was he just filling in or is he a regular now? I ask because, as a Redskin fan, Frank is a god.

    Thanks!

    Response:

Glad you like him so much! Frank is doing fill-in newscasts. His choice to work part-time at this point in his career, and return home to WTOP (where he worked in the 60's).

what's the deal with that guy, he has two first names...

Son, when you participate in sporting

events, it's not whether you win

or lose: it's how drunk you get.

    "He's at 20, the 15, 10, 5...Touchdown, Washington Redskins!!!!"

now if that call doesn't send a shot up the spine, I don't know what does.

    Larry Michael's call, "....." I don't know?

I loved Frank Herzog, but maybe if the Skins win a superbowl Michael might show some different style (which he seems to be lacking)

On a different note, everyone should go watch the OTA videos. Pretty Kewl!

Maybe that's because Larry Michael has had the job for 1 season while Frank had it for what 20 seasons?

Herzog was terrible his last few years as play by play guy and at times seemed quite bored to be calling the game.

I'm not saying Michael was any better last year, he wasn't and he didn't have the chemistry with Sonny and Sam that Frank did.

But let's not make Frank into something he isn't.

I also agree that he was terrible on the postgame show last year. But then again, he was working for WTEM and that station is synonimous with bad radio nowadays.

In the end, I still turn down the TV and listen to WJFK's call during the games because as bad as Herzog or Michael may be, they are light years better than the jokers that FOX has announcing games.
