Question Tip#56 How to win without coming from behind.

Play your freakin playmaker on Defense. Holy cow, how many games must we go before someone realizes that Holdman (while a great player) is not a playmaker, and is not pulling his weight. Someone needs to get over themselves and play Arrington. How many fumbles has he forced when he's played? 10 in the last 3 years.. How many sacks has he had when he's played? 18 in last 3 years...

Stats thus far in 2005 for the team: Team Sacks=4 Team Forced Fumbles=2

The moral of the story is: How can you expect to win games consistantly without forcing turnovers and having playmakers on the field.

    Just my

Greg Williams and his vanilla defense needs to put Lavar in the game. This is getting ridiculous, every week I find myself saying "oh he'll be in this week" only to find out theres no intention of putting him in the game. If hes not in by the next home game, Greg Williams will hear about it from me personally at the next home game.

Arrington MIGHT help. The problem is, he wouldn't be able to do it by himself. It seems as though Williams has gotten a little more conservative this year because teams we face are taking more three step drops, fearing the blitz. Less blitzing has allowed a lot more three and outs but that doesn't always help our field position. The pass rush pressure HAS to come from the D-Line in order to help create the turnovers and so far it hasn't.

Keeping more guys in coverage increases the chances of INT's but we also need to try to create more fumbles as well.

The defense is fine giving up 14.5 points a game and ranked 8th.

Amen.. Funny how last year, we were one of the top defenses, and didnt seem to have near as big of problem forcing turnovers.. The differences= No Lavar (not ok b/c of the hype he brings to the team, and playmaking ability), No Smoot (ok, b/c Carlos is holding it down for the most part) and Less Blitzing (not ok, less blitzing = more time in the pocket, which = longer plays.)

That would be enought to win w/ out being tight games, if we weren't the only team turning the ball over in the game.

Amen. All the Lavar lovers seem to forget that. We had a great defense last year without Arrington. I do think we need to somehow increase our pass rush, and if that means playing Arrington then so be it, but last year we DIDN'T get pressure on the QB by playing Arrington cause he was hurt most of last year. I have faith in whatever Gregg Williams feels is best. The results don't lie.

I say put him in and let's see.
what could it hurt?, and if he had a great game, maybe we do lead the game from begining to end, wouldn't that be nice not to have 9 hear attacks in 3 hours?

Look at the years that Lavar played... If Gregg Williams was there then, tell me we wouldn't have been a playoff team. Now that we have the best of both worlds, for the love of pete.. Force turnovers, w/ the talent and playmakers that we have.. Blitz Taylor, or Arrington, or Springs.. I remember last year, thinking, "yeah, we're gonna shut this QB down." Not this year.. We only have 4 sacks in 4 games.

    Tip #57.
Study your playbook and learn your assignments, play within the scheme and not outside it, and you'll see the field.

Yeah, we were good last year without Arrington.

But, we lost a great middle linebacker, and you guys aren't counting that last year Lemar Marshall played better than Warrick Holdman (at the same position). We would be fine without Arrington, if (oh god the dreaded if) we still had Pierce at MLB and Marshall at RLB...

I'm sorry but Lemar Marshall (although a good player) isn't playing as good as Pierce did last year, and Warrick Holdman isn't playing as good as Lemar Marshall did last year.

We need to do something drastic, even if that means putting Arrington in. If we don't get some turnovers/sacks this year, it could really hurt us. People will stop fearing our defense...

    Any input on this, guys?
(Please try not to just call me an idiot for supporting Arrington)
