    Redskins Redskins Chili Recipe

Hey friends. I have been doing the Skins tailgate thing for a couple of years now, but Sunday will be my first venture into the pre-game chili world. I am asking of all of you a couple of things: 1) I need a Redskins-only recipe. I have seen a lot of opposing team recipes on the net and I want one that is authored by a Skins fan. 2) I need one that will take about an hour to make. I get to Fedex at about 1015 usually and start heading inside at 1240 - we have to seriously time manage the chili preparation and making. 3) I need a simple recipe - I need names of foods that I recognize and that I don't have to go to Whole Foods to get. 4) Do you chili-makers out there do all the prep at home and just heat it up at the game? I need to know this precious information.
Thank you all in advance for your tremendous outcry of chili support.

    Prediction for Sunday: Skins 35, 49ers 9

    Portis scores all 5 touchdowns.

I just use meat. Thats it. I use chilli mix, usually three alarm, and cubed beef.
And for goods sake don't put cinnamon or raisins or sugar...blah...in it.
If time contraint is an issue you can always make it the night before.

Actually Cincinatti Style is quite good, and it does have some cinnamon as well as dark chocolate in it....

I've got the book "Cookin' With The 'Skins", which was released in 1987, and has recipes from all the stars, including Gibbs, Bugel, coaches, writers, alumni, all sorts. I've got these chili recipes:

Big Game Chili - by Charles and Tyrena Mann, Player
Champion Chili - by Pat White, Redskins Staff
Chili Cotti - by Torgy and Nola Torgeson, Coach
Monday Night Champion Chili - by Pete and Carrie Rozelle, fan

But my favorite recipe so far is not chili. It's Joe and Brenda Bugel's Lobster Stuffed Tenderloin.

Let me know if you're interested.

Okay I'll post the Charles Mann one now, it seems the most reasonable as far as time contraints.

BIG GAME CHILI by Charles & Tyrena Mann, Player

    2 lb pinto beans
    2 small green peppers, chopped
    2 medium onions, chopped
    2 cloves garlic, crushed
    1/4 cup cooking oil
    3 lbs lean ground beef
    3 (1 lb) cans tomatoes
3 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
3 to 4 Tbs chili powder
    1/4 tsp tabasco sauce
    1 cup water

Before you leave for the game, cook beans for one and a half to two hours or until beans are tender. When they are tender, put them in a container and get to your tailgate spot with the rest of your ingredients.

You should have one of those two-burner camp stoves, right? The beans have cooled down, so start warming them up again on one burner. On the other burner, Cook beef, green peppers, onions, and garlic in oil until beef is lightly browned. Add all remaining ingredients EXCEPT BEANS. Cover and simmer 45 minutes. Drain beans and stir into beef mixture; cover and simmer 25 mins.

    Yeilds: 4 quarts.

Really, try using sausage instead of ground beef. It spices it up and makes it rich.
