    Default An observation......

I truly don't mean to second guess after such an incredible win, but for those who were at the game, I'm wondering if you noticed this too.

Patten was open. He was open a LOT. I was a little disappointed to see that he wasn't targeted more often. I still believe the guy can be a huge force in our offense given the chance. Aside from the long pass (no catch, but interference called) and the catch out of bounds, he wasn't thrown to almost at all. It just puzzles me a little.

Wondering if anyone else had similar observations or thoughts.

I agree. I'm starting to think that our only receiving options are Moss, Cooley and Portis. Do we even have a #3 receiver? I'm being sarcastic, but honestly, it's almost as if our 3rd receiver IS Portis.

i didnt ever really notice him open that much..i just thought he was covered...the eagles did a good job covering our receivers. moss didnt get any really deep balls just that one for about 20 or so (which ive come to expect 30+ plays ive gotten greedy). we killed em with our h-backs. mostly

I've mentioned this before, but I really get the impression that brunell just doesn't look his way, and if he does, it's only as a last resort

He was open I'd say realistically, 75% of the time. I was sitting there with my brother in law and we were watching him on pass plays specifically and we were speechless. The guy runs his routes and runs them well. We all saw him reel in that grab, albeit out of bounds. He's got great hands and veteran abilities.

I want to see him utilized much more. Imagine how much more dangerous Santana would be if there was another receiver demanding respect?

    That would be devastating.

I don't think it's too uncommon for a QB to start locking in on a guy who's made play after play for him.

I think in the last 8 games Brunell will need to find Patten for our passing game to continue to succeed.

Totally agree, and that's exactly my point. For continued success, we need to make Patten a factor so that defenses can't key solely on Moss.

I was in the corner of the endzone so my vantage point wasn't that great, but I didn't see any of the wideouts getting open all that often. Credit their coverage. Of course all the attention on the wideouts opened up plays for Cooley, Betts, Sellars, etc.

Well he was open the pass interference play and he misjudged the ball, lucky enough he got raped and got a lucky call. Bruenll threw it to a perfect spot but Patten was short of the ball by atleast 3 steps.

I was sitting 20 feet away from that play, and you're totally wrong. He really was well covered, but the ball was underthrown, and the interference was called when he stopped and tried coming back to the ball.

How you could misinterpret that play as anything else is confusing to me. If you saw something other than that, you clearly couldn't have been watching the play.

Also, it wasn't a lucky call. It was obvious PI. He MADE that play and created the PI call. Please don't sell the guy short because you don't like him for whatever reason. Keep it objective.

I have to admit I thought Brunell was starting to lock in on Moss a bit too much at times. A few of those swing passes reallymade me cringe. One of these days a DB is going to get a jump on one and take it back for six. I don't know if it's Patten not being on the same page with Brunell or Brunell looking the other way too often or what, but I would really like to see Patten more involved in the offense, and soon.

This is what tape is for. I am sure they review the tape and see who is open and who is not on every play. Brunell not seing the open guy would come up when they review the tape. Relax it's all good.

That's what I'm talking about Henry.

My seats were section 112......almost directly behind the goal posts. It was like being behind center, and on many occasions I was looking downfield and could see the field as Brunell could. From watching Mark from behind, I could watch his progression and saw where he was looking. He'd look at Patten for a fraction of a second and I'm telling you, regardless of whether or not he was covered or wide open, he would NOT pull the trigger and fire one in his direction. I was like.........good lord how much more open does he need to be? Seriously it was perplexing.

Now........I'm not criticizing Brunell. I love how he's reenergized our
team and think he's the right guy for the job. Perhaps there's a legit reason he doesn't trust Patten, I don't know. As a fan of the game, and having a good understanding of the game, I just have a hard time seeing what I'm seeing without much of an explanation.

I'm a little surprised there haven't been more folks calling this out.

Thanks Alex, but I'm fine. I'm not all uptight about it, just discussing it with fellow Skins fans looking for the opinions of others.

Do me a favor though, don't tell me to "relax" as if I'm some out of control, ranting fan who's uninformed.

If you have feedback to contribute, please do so, that's what I'm looking for. If I felt I needed counseling, I'd be on a different type of message board.
