Anyone use Turbo Tax??

Do you feel it is worth it, even if your taxes are somewhat complicated, like rental properties etc.....

I am a heavy user of quicken so was thinking about using turbo tax this year to see if it would be worth to save some money. A good tax accountant is going to be about $$$.

I have used Turbo Tax for about 10 years. Never had any problem. My taxes require Schedule A, C, D, etc. and I sometimes have K-1s. I can't say definitively whether it is saving me any money, as I haven't done the return manually at the same time and compared. However, for me, it does makes things easier.

I have used Turbo tax for 10 + years also and always felt good about my returns. My sister in law passed her CPA exam last year and I had her do our taxes along with me doing them on TT. TT actually gave me $62 more than she did.

By the time I install it, download all the forms, answer the million questions (like "Do you have anyone who is blind in your household."), print everything out, I can manually have my taxes done and watch a Wizards game. WAY too time consuming.

I used it last year, and it worked great for me, not complicated, worth it IMO

I've been using turbotax for about 8-10 years. I also have renatal property and various other schedules out of the ordinary. If you have rental property make sure you get turbotax premier as it has extras specifically for rental property. I wouldn't do my taxes any other way. I especially like how it shows a running total of refund or amt. owed in upper corner so you can instantly see the effects of different calculations. Many times I'll figure things different ways to see what works best i.e. figure standard mileage for a vehicle vs actual expenses which is a lot easier to do with turbotax than doing manually. The other great feature is that after your first year it's even easier because the program remembers your previous information and completes a lot of redundant info. (employer tax#'s etc.).

I would recommend using TaxAct instead. It is the exact same thing as Turbo Tax but it's $30 cheaper. But if you want to spend the extra money then Turbo Tax is the way to go.

I heard taxact is good but it doesn't help you with planning your year and how you can make sure your returns are the smallers possible. You do not want to get a lot of money from the IRS that is similar to having the government hold you money in escrow and you not getting anything.

It sounds as though you already have that part figured out. Most of us realize the smaller the return you get at the end of the year means you are giving the IRS less money throughout the year. So why would you need to spend $30 - $40 more for a program to tell you that? Like I said before, if you want to spend the extra money suit yourself. It's your taxes, so use what you feel most comfortable with. I just feel that you can get the same return with Taxact as you can with Turbo Tax.
