Default Could we have the GREAT ONE

Honestly, for those of us Caps fans that have been around awhile, besides Langway (although I'll argue) the most talented man we've had on the team was Mike Gartner. Ovechkin is obviously leaps ahead of him. Can this become a hockey town? Obviously never will any sport take over the 'Skins, but if we had the greatest player in the NHL, do the Caps have a chance to take over the Wizards? Most will say no, based on urban belief. But let's be honest, it's NOVA and southern MD that packs MCI every night. Is there a chance, assuming we have the BEST player of all time in a single sport?

If the Caps become regular contenders for the Cup there will be a ground swell of support. Just remember the hype leading up to the 1998 Cup. They just need to put together a decade of high end performance with a Cup or two mixed in.

I do disagree with one thing. The title of the thread. There is only one Great One. We have the Real One (as opposed to Sid the Kid who they call the Next One). Although I like what some on the Caps boards call Crosby, Super Twit, after Mario's nickname of Super Mario. I missed it last night, but apparently Crosby tried to skip out on an interview between periods on MSG.
