I am having one of the most incredible lives. I know it's truly unique and strange and I wouldn't wish it on or trade it with anybody.

There are a few ways to automatically tell if someone grew up in the D.C. area. The easiest giveaway is in the slang they use. Although local jargon spans quite a few words, there are three main terms that, when said out loud, all sound the same, but don’t have any official spelling. I’m here to clear that up.

First on the list is the word “bama.” In its most basic form, it’s an insult. A derivative of “Alabama,” there are certain applications that could be qualified as a term of endearment or as just a general term for a person. But if you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t go throwing that around without expecting people to be offended.

Make no mistake, if someone calls you a bama, whatever you’re doing, you’re doing it wrong. There are derivations of said word, such as “bamafied” or bama used alone as an adjective. But for whatever reason, the spelling is up for debate.

indeed. John Mara is a bamma. Tony Romo is a bamma. Rob Parker is a bamma.

Kirk Cousins is "lunchin'" with his new haircut. Alfred Morris was "lunchin" for chasing that racoon that had his sandal.

    Bamma

    Lunchin'

Joanin' ( I don't even hear that one anymore, but it was prevalent in the late 90's/early '00s.)

I think "Mo" is another one. They'll say it like "Whatup Mo"

Someone needs to come out with a DC slang dictionary or something. One of my best friends can get into that "DC" talk and I'll literally have no clue what he's talking about.

Hold up, "Mo" took over "cuz"?

    I don't like that, young.

I normally post in here just because I like how relaxed it is, and I like to drum up funny, random conversation (just because thats my personality), or thoughts that I probably wouldn't share in other threads without pissing people off, or just random bitching.

But yeah, today has been a pretty boring, slow moving day.

yeah, "mo" is definitely newer. When i was in high school from 96-2000, it was "young," "joe," and "cuz."

but that's back when dc used to be "dc," when we actually had an identity. If you were out of town somewhere, you used to be able to spot a bamma from DC a mile away. Timbs or Foamposites, slouch socks, rolled up jean shorts with a madness t-shirt with your name on the back and a matching keychain

I know times and styles change, but D.C. folks used to always be unique from every other city with the way they dressed. When I was living in North Carolina back in 2001, random people would be like "aye young u from the city?" They could tell I was from DC simply by the shoes I was wearing

From seeing pictures of friends and their little brothers/sisters that still live in DC, that doesn't seem like that's the case anymore. Those lil' bammas hangin' around union station are dressed like Omarion. Sorry for the rant.

Lol, I remember the slouch socks and Tims when I moved here back in '95. I always thought it had something to do with Bone Thugs. Dudes wearing slouch socks is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen

And "Mo" definitely started to get used my last couple years of high school, because a lot of kids from the DC/PG County area started moving to Waldorf. I lived right on the edge of Charles County and PG County

And don't get me started on the whole Warner Brothers phase in like 99-2000....i had marvin the martin socks to match my black Penny Hardaways. Good lord
