Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd is fairly amazing with headphones. Kid A or even OK Computer by Radiohead are also solid choices. Beats are great but terribly over-priced imho.

Which is why they're a great gift. Not my preference, but still good headphones. Pink Floyd - Insert any album here - is amazing. Smashing Pumpkins - Oceania, the song specifically is awesome with headphones on. The drum transition part will sound incredible with a pair of Beats and a high quality recording.

Radiohead - In Rainbows is pretty good.

The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed (although this is an album that should be blared)
The Beatles- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
    The Beach Boys - SMiLE

Fragile from Yes is really good on headphones. Heart of the Sunrise sounds great in particular.

Just thinking of that gives me an eargasm.

My pick would be the album "Perdition City" by Ulver. It's like an avant-garde, dark, industrial, slow jazz. I chose this because there is so much depth and subtlety.

My second choice would be the Black Album by Metallica....so many amazing notes, precision, and simply masterfully done.
