    Yeah they look pretty bad.

My brother and I also did some exploring yesterday... if you sit in the corner seats of the "half sections" that go all of the way to row 29, you don't get to see about 80% of the endzones on those sides. Just FYSA for anyone looking to sit there.

I think on the sidelines, the drips may hit the seat backs in row 2, and splatter on the knees. Also, if there is a little wind, the rain may blow in. For example, I sat in 306 (above you) row 19 for 3 years. And although row 18 is completely undercover, and even row 17 is partially undercover because of the upper deck overhang, the people sitting in row 17 got soaked every game, and the ones in row 18 got their knees and thighs wet every single game, no exceptions. It's possible that the other side of the stadium is different - the prevailing west wind causing the currents to behave differently.

Next week, we'll break this down to a molecular level, and we can discuss it - taking into account the shifting dynamics of air density.

    Congrats on your new seats!
Like I said, maybe it was just my section or the new ribbon boards. I'll keep reporting each year as I move around to the 50 yard line

Regarding the new wands replacing the frisking.....Fans need to be prepared to empty their pockets of ALL metal. Poor guy next to me had lots of coins, nail clippers, keys, radio, head phones and other assorted metallic stuff. He couldn't hold it all in his hands and got very frustrated and angry. The security guard did not help matters by giving attitude and threatening to deny access if he "did not shut up"....repeatedly. The fan was an older guy really frustrated; did not appear drunk. I showed up a little after it started so I don't know the whole story. Just have all your metallic stuff in one pocket and ready to pull out. At least my guy didn't make me take off my belt! (metal buckle). What are they going to do in the winter when people show up with metal zippers and buttons on their jackets?

Frankly, I thought the wands slowed things down because everyone had to keep digging in their pockets every time the damn wand beeped. The good news I guess is that it will be much easier to smuggle in food and plastic bottles of you know what. The process may speed up as people realize they have to pull out all their metallic stuff before they get to the guy with the wand.
"That's not enough rings," Griffin said. "We've got to get more."
"Alright, Sammy," Griffin said. "I'll see you later."

I went through with no problem and had keys and a metal belt buckle. Wonder if some of the sensitivity on wands were at different settings??

Oh yeah and what happened to seeing the video the official see's on the big screen??? They did it sometimes and sometimes they didn't.

That last review, we did not get to see, lasted so damn long the wave went around the stadium 5+ times. Fans were board to death. Bring back the real refs!

Do the skins warm up on the same end of the field as their locker room?

They warm up on the side of the field nearest their tunnel...and I assume their locker room....and nearest to the section 113 end zone.

Yeah, When I saw them on the broadcast, I was hoping I was not getting senile and just didn't remember them from last year. LOL I am glad they are modernizing the stadium as much as they can each season.

The new security measures are going to make for some very long lines until people get used to them.

At the gate I went in, the wand guys were demanding that folks empty their pockets of everything before even using the wand, but there was not way to know this in advance. As noted above, there was also no place to put the stuff from your pockets. The guy ahead of me handed what must have been about $20 in mixed coinage to the guard to hold while he tried to empty his other pockets of other items. In my case the guy told me to put everything from my pockets in my ball cap. He then ended up partially frisking me anyway, because the grommets on my poncho and the buttons on my pants pockets were setting off his wand.

For cold weather games, I often have metal things in pockets that are a few layers of clothing deep. I'll know better by then, but many single game guests won't and will slow things up for everyone else.

I score this development Al Qaeda 1, NFL 0.

    >>Do the exposed steel supports where the seats were ripped out look as unseemly in person as they do on TV? They need to put SOMETHING up there.

...and if it is raining and you are walking on the upper deck concourse underneath where the seats were, you get wet.....not sure if tarps would help in the rain, they would probaby just pool the water up and dump it in one big load....

Not sure how I really feel about the ribbon boards. As S&S said, they do add color to the place, but at times I felt like I was looking at a Vegas marquee because it seemed like there was so much motion and blinking. I know the Redskins want to use the boards for advertising, but maybe there's someway to tone it down a bit. I know the Eagles have had ribbon boards at the Linc since the place opened, but never remember feeling distracted as much as I did yesterday.

Also, was it just me, or did there seem to be more music played yesterday than normal? I think its good to play stuff to add excitement, but at times it felt more like a rock concert.

Having said this stuff, need to add the disclaimer that I had taken a red-eye flight from the West just before the game and, despite the excitement to see RG3 and the team in person for the first time this season, probably had me more on the grumpier side than usual. I'll have to wait until the first real game on the 23rd to make a more honest assessment.

Hi guys, first time posting so go easy on me. I'm a Redskins fan from Dublin, Ireland who has been following the team since the late 80's but due to the distance and cost, I've never got to go to a game. But it's finally happening! Ive just booked a trip over to see the Vikings game on October 14th. So I'm just looking for a bit of advice on how to make the most of the day. My seat is in section 118, row 4 which I think is ok (am i right?). I'm just wondering what I should see/do both before and after the game and what's good to drink and eat at the concessions? Any tips to get the most of the day will be greatly appreciated!

If you have me, I'd love to come along to the Extremeskins tailgate but I'll be back on closer to the time to chat abou that. I'm like a kid again I'm that excited about finally getting over!

Congratulations! Hope you enjoy your first Redskins game. I see you decided on the "nordic" them for an Irelander. At least it is a game we should win and you can leave happy seeing your first Redskins victory in person. Section 118 would be on the Visitors side at about the ten yard line. Bring your sunglasses. You will be on the sunny side of the stadium. Probably will have some Vikings fans around you. And you may find yourself standing much of the game to see the action on the field. Strongly encourage you hit the Extremeskins tailgate prior to the game for you best food and drink. Beer and liquor inside the stadium is expensive. Water and lemonade is $5 per cup/bottle. A bottomless cup of soda is now $10 or $5/6 per cup. Food on the lower level is not all that great. Just nothing special. It's the usual stadium food. You are not allowed to bring in any food, beverages, backpacks, umbrellas, etc. A complete list is on Redskins.com You might want to stop in at the Redskins Hall of Fame store to buy fan stuff. But warning it is packed before during and after the game.

If you are coming for the game, I hope you are planning some extra time to tour the city and the museums. Lots of tourist stuff to do in DC.....Smithsonian Museums, the White House, the Capitol, the Library of Congress, lots of monuments, etc.

Where are you staying and how do you plan to arrive at the stadium will be important. Only people with parking passes can get onto the property via a vehicle, including taxis. Taxis let you off at the edge of the property and let you walk in.

Welcome to the board and Hail!

P.S. You picked the right thread....go to the first post and read all the information that Mark the Homer has assembled. It is THE best source of information about FedEx Field.

Thanks for that SonnyandSam. Some good tips there

I'm in the area for a couple of days beforehand so will have time to see a few of the sites. I'm especially looking forward to going to the Smithsonian. I'm staying in Shirlington so will be arriving at the game by metro and the long walk up from Morgan Boulevard but a good brisk walk never did anyone any harm and it will help me build up an appetite and thirst!

Shirlington has a nice little shopping center with a theater. Its a small theater so you are up close to the play. Not sure whats playing but you can chi it out. Site seeing in dc is great! Oct should be cool enough that walking around the city won't be bad. Or u can just get a metro day pass. Lots of things to see so plan your day. I've enjoyed the natural history, and spy museam. The zoo is fun too but takes up most of your day.

Yeah, they make it look unfinished....last Saturday I went down on the Bolt Bus with my brother from NYC (he starting from Boston) to our first Redskins "home" game.

I tell you, FedEx is a couple seasons away from being a dump. It's about as soul-less a stadium as I've ever been in.....this organization needs to move back to DC and it needs to be special.....I mean we drove past RFK on our way out and it's still sooo much cooler looking than FedEx.

Johnny Rockets was good though and it was awesome being amongst Redskins fans although I saw two separate groups of cops escort people from the stadium....for a preseason game?

Btw, why do they pipe in HTTR? You can hear the band just fine.

I also want to give a HUGE thanks to Mark the Homer for this thread b/c without it we would have been buried behind a pillar deep in the "cave" with our original tixs.
