Thread: Westbrook hates: March Madness

Heh, I thought WB36's post was amusing and spot on with my office MM experience. And even though I do enjoy the game, it is funny watching folks who usually doesn't give a lick about the sport all of a sudden become a fan. It's probably the same folks who suddenly become a "football" fan around the same time as the Super Bowl.

It was funny, though, watching this dude at work that normally hates sports freaking out about the Boston College game.

There is one reason and one reason alone. The stupid office pool which everyone from sports freaks to soccer moms fill out thinking they know enough about all 64 teams in the tourney to make informed decisions.

You can be sure there will always be HUGE INTRIGUE for "Selection Sunday" as they'll have a few cams on some teams "on the bubble" and the reactions of joy and/or sorrow. Every year it's the same and every year America falls for this fake drama.

I always talk to people who have filled out a pool and ask them who is their "sleeper" this year. 90 percent of the people always say Gonzaga, until they got good and moved up. Try this yourself this year and see how right I am. Gonzaga is full of scrappy white kids so they fall into the perfect choice as a "sleeper" even though they have been great for about 8 years straight and everyone knows about them. Just sustitute Gonzaga for another scrappy white team and you have a winner (among office pools).

I won't watch one minute of college basketball this year, just like every other year, because I could care less. If it weren't for office pools, NCAA Basketball wouldn't even be televised. You might laugh but I am 100 percent right.

Most people who fill out pools come into work and open up some sorta sports page or watch Jim Nance to actually find out something about the 64 teams before they start filling out their "brackets". What a joke.

I don't really hate basketball as much as I said, but I just have no love of it, and every year at this time its the only thing on TV and it gets me al little upset.

Baseball IS the greatest sport though, and the people in here saying baseball sucks and all really does piss me off...

As for thugs in baseball, yeah there are a few, and I am not giving them a free pass either, but you will possibly find an average of 3 thug players on a major league team, and an average of 5 on a pro basketball team... That fact in and of itself is telling cause baseball teams carry 25 ppl on their roster and Basketball only 12... so about 1/8 baseball players are thugs and almost half of all basketball players are... gee I wonder where I got the Idea that the NBA should be called the National Thug Association.

I have played amature athletics too, and I know how much of a team sport baseball is, apparently you never played the game enough to find out how much of a team sport it really is. There are so many things that players do to back each other up, to sacrifice possible stats for themselves in order to move a runner closer to home plate, Things like that.

Also there was an insinuation that a stupid person could make it as a baseball player, that statement shows truely how little you know about the game. There are so many intricacies that every player must know in order to become sucessful, every possition has an enoumous mental requirement... Basketball on the other hand, the players are constantly killing their own brain cells with weed and still go out and have great games cause they don't need to be as smart to play basketball.

Sorry for my rant here and earlier, I just get sick of having ppl run down my favorite sport all the time so I thought I would give a few of you a taste of your own medecine. Just cause I don't like the game doesn't mean that I don't know the game unlike you ppl that hate baseball.

Is baseball on TV even remotely interesting outside of the playoffs? I don't think so. I mean, I enjoy going to see an Os game, but that's basically for the beer and concessions (plus Camden Yards is gorgeous). Other than a team winning the pennant, I can't see anything in baseball coming close to the emotion of March Madness. But maybe that's just me.

"You know what really grinds my gears? This Lindsay Lohan. Lindsay Lohan with all those little outfits, jumping around there on stage, half-naked with your little outfits. Ya know? You're a... You're out there jumping around and I'm just sitting here with my beer. So, what am I supposed to do? What you want? You know, are we gonna go out? Is that what you're trying to - why why are you leaping around there, throwing those things all up in my, over there in my face? What do you want, Lindsay? Tell me what you want? Well, I'll tell you what you want, you want nothing. You want nothing. All right? Because we all know that no woman anywhere wants to have sex with anyone, and to titillate us with any thoughts otherwise is - is just bogus."

Here comes the annual hoopla over teams that 99 percent of the American public couldn't name without their espn.com cheatsheets on who is actually good and whatnot.

I bet everyone is picking Texas as a sleeper this year because they read somewhere that this Kevin Durant is really good!!

I love it, I just hate how a lot of people who don't watch a lick of college ball claim to be experts.

"Washington strolled to the NFC championship, outscoring their two playoff opponents by a combined total of 48 points. Their domination was more than impressive, it was historic. The 1991 Redskins boasted the largest average margin of victory among all Super Bowl champions."

    Typical eagles fan

    We won't miss you

Honestly what is wrong with the office pool when someone who NEVER watches NCAA basketball like Phil's Mom (TK show, Dan Patrick, ESPN etc...) Picks GMU to go to the final four last year, and not another person did the same. That is what is great about this tournament.

I'm sorry you feel that way. Personally, I think it is great. It comes at the perfect time, NFL season is over & MLB hasn't started yet. I told my wife last night that it started Thursday and she responded, "I will just watch TV in the bedroom". That is the perfect woman.

    A couple of points:

The 1st 2 days of March Madness are the 2 days out of the year when the most sick days are taken.

Take the Old Dominion vs Butler upset. (I think maybe this post is your way of getting bracket tips).

Also, why do you refer to yourself in 3rd person all the time? Warpath really wants to know.

College basketball in march is thrilling action most of the time, unlike the NBA which has blow outs on most nights. Anyone has a chance in March, that what makes it so much fun to watch. Don't be bitter because you were picked last in gym class
