On that last picture, how long did you last? It hurts to even look at it!Originally Posted by cathartic-j

About 30 seconds in the snow, and then another 30 on the front porch afterward -- after taking the picture, my dad locked me out!Originally Posted by skinsjunkie2

It wasn't quite as fun as the usual cold-weather "feats." There are some "resorts" (though not fancy or expensive -- you can get in to the pools for maybe $10) that are built on some natural hot springs nearby, and they have outdoor pools. There's usually enough snow built up around the fences that you can have brief rounds of snowball fighting (assuming nobody else is actually out there), jump back into the naturally heated pool for a few minutes, and then go at it again. One of them also has a cold pool with a temperature of 40-45 degrees (no, it doesn't make sense), so there's often a competition to can see who last the longest in there.
See, I lived for 18 years in Montana before going to Florida for college . . . and Florida makes me miss cold and snow badly, as you can see in the picture.![]()

I understand about missing the snow....I live in Maryland and even *I* miss the snow compared with what we used to get when I was a kid. Everyone I know loves the beach, me, I'd rather vacation and live in the snow.
How are the beaches in Maryland? My family went to Bethany Beach, DE several years ago (I know, it's a different area, but by my standards it's relatively close), but I didn't go with them. They enjoyed it, but weren't particularly impressed...Originally Posted by skinsjunkie2
Did you grow up elsewhere, or do y'all just get less snow than you used to?

I'm not particularly impressed with them either. I prefer Virginia Beach if I'm going to go local - they're all about 3-4 hours away. But I will tell you that most Marylanders love their beaches.Originally Posted by cathartic-j
I grew up in Maryland and we definitely get less snow than we used to. I lived in Minnesota for a year in high school though and loved all the snow there.
Someone who actually likes the cold and snow as much as I do. Rare, but nice to see.Originally Posted by skinsjunkie2

I live in my own little world, but that's ok. They know me here.
I know this is a show me thread, but since we're talking about snow, here's some snow pics from western Maine four weeks ago. The snow was literally up to my armpits. I'll have a couple more with me and other people in them later. ...and a youtube vid of my buddy's 17 year old son doing a back flip off the roof.

And there's something about the character of people who live in places with that kind of snow. They're just different from other folks, it's like they're more solid. Love their attitude about life. Nothing much daunts them, they're hearty, blunt at times, and know how to get out there and make the most of everything.
Like Garrison Keillor says,
"Growing up in a place that has winter, you learn to avoid self-pity. Winter is not a personal experience, everybody else is as cold as you, so you shouldn't complain about it too much. You learn this as a kid, coming home crying from the cold, and Mother looks down and says, "It's only a little frostbite. You're okay." And thus you learn to be okay. What's done is done. Get over it. Drink your coffee. It's not the best you'll ever get but it's good enough."
Amen to that.![]()
Here's a pic of me in my Gus Frerotte jersey from when I went to Key West Fantasy Fest in 2003 and also a more current one. Currently live in C'Ville, Va and went to the University of Miami. Die hard Canes and Skins fan. Had classes with Santana, Dan Morgan, Reggie Wayne and saw ST (RIP) on campus quite a bit.

No stories really. He was a quiet dude. Most of the guys I had class with were. Shockey is a completely different story. He and I used to go to this bar in Miami called The Tavern and turn down the collars of people with the awful upturned collar. He was a funny dude but a great guy. We weren't like best friends or anything but I definitely shared quite a few beers with him. Haha, he still owes me like $8 for a pitcher! I still give him crap about that when I see him when we both happen to be in the same bar in Miami.Originally Posted by Mark The Homer

That's awesome. My cousin had hair down below her butt and had it cut up to her shoulders. She donated it to them too.Originally Posted by RedskinRobofRadford
