Gibbs is in his 15th season as the Redskins' coach. In the previous 14 seasons, he has led the team to the playoffs nine times.

His preseason record in those nine playoff seasons is 16-21. In 1982, the Redskins won the Super Bowl after a 0-4 preseason. In 1991, they won the Super Bowl after a 1-3 preseason. Last year, the Redskins advanced to the second round of the playoffs after going 1-3 in preseason.

In the only two losing seasons during Gibbs' tenure in Washington, the Redskins were 3-1 in 1988 and 3-2 in 2004.

Any reports on his press conferences after those games? I'm pretty sure he's acting the same way now he did then, the sky if falling, armageddon is upon us, cats sleeping with dogs.

    RIP Bubba

You know, I wonder if those preseason's when he won, did he think everything was settled and nothing needed attention? The preseason is when he finds out what needs work and who can play. The funny part is I don't remember preseasons past.
RIP Bubba, you are missed (gone three years March 16th)

    Good post, Bubba.

Folks forget how bad we looked during the '91 preseason.
(1-3 including, I believe giving up 40 some points to the patriots, who were not a good team at the time).

So much so, that many media guys that had picked us to win it all were having doubts.

What happened? First game of the year against the Lions, a 45-0 blow-out.

In fact, the first 3 home games that year, the Redskins 'D' gave up ZERO points

    45-0 against the Lions
    36-0 against the Cardinals
23-0 against the Eagles on a Monday Night

An the Lions were no slouch that year. That was the team we would face again in the NFC Championship (and soundly drubbed them again 41-10 ).

All that after looking so bad and giving up all those points in the preseason.

Folks do need to relax, but I know I'm wasting my fingers here.
    HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!!

Sorry for any confusion. Westy is Westbrook36. He is a well known Eagles homer from Around the NFL. He and Bubba were battling in one of the threads and yesterday Westy was banned for 30 days.

The only thing we have to remember about how worthless a team's preseason stats are is that game we played in Japan vs. SF in Spurrier's first season. I regret getting really psyched after we lit it up that game. Danny freakin Weurffel even had a good game. And look at what happened us when the games actually counted under Spurrier.

I KNOW who westy is. I have been here for about 5 years now.

    I kinda know the players.

Just could not understand how BLONDIE could get confused with westbrook.

Losing preseason games means nothing...you are correct. Starters looking horrible does mean something...look at the Colts last night. Who cares that they lost, Peyton and crew were in mid season form. The argument behind this post is missing the point that our offense still looks out of sync....like it did in last years preseason and a number of games last year. We are not going all the way if Brunell has more 100-150 yard passing games.

    "'nuff said!"

    baloney.

I have no doubts that this will be a special season. but if you are suggesting that the coaching staff is just peachy pleased with the performance of this team so far - let me have one of the roll your owns you be smokin!

I don't give a rat's patout about preseason win/losses either. but at some point, a team with SB expectations comes together. you and others are making a case with absolutely no effort (i.e., you are incredibly lazy) to draw out the parallels. you need to demonstrate how these Skins are similar to the teams with miserable preseason records that went on to win SBs. you haven't done that. are the preseason losses similar in nature? was Joe saying the same things? did the teams in each era have similar rosters and injury situations? was the competition the same? were the losses in each preseason about the same in nature?

    if you're gonna make a case...then make a case!
