I'm sorry for asking this and I don't wanna feel stupid ... but I came in to the US from Argentina in 2004 and rele started paying attention to football in '05 (now I'm a HUGE fan) ...

Well ... I opened this thread so someone could tell me about the Steve Spurrier era (year, players, record, system) ... and why everyone hates him so badly ..

Again .. sorry for this stupid question .. just wanted 2 know more about the Skins!

He was a great college coach that has no handle for the pro game. He won at Duke, which has an awful football program. He Won a National Champion at University of Florida. Coached us 2 year... his style does not fit the pros at all. People in pros change to defend alot better than college. He now coached at University of South Carolina. He is known for his passing and offensive mind.

Steve Spurrier was dreadful, and most skins would not want to talk about...to make a long story short he was a successful college coach who had a high octaine offense (Or "Fun and Gun" as some said) that failed at the NFL level..

Coached in 2002 and 2003. He went a combined 12-20 over 2 seasons. He was ridiculed by everyone and the Skins were the laughing stock of the NFL during those 2 years.....(which we probably are right now)

It starts with what a guy gets paid...he got like 5 bajillion dollars per year...

Then, he plays the pre season games like they are the Sugar Bowl and runs up 35 points per game in 5 pre seaosn games...

Then he surrounds himself with a bunch of former Florida gators, who sure, can run right by defenders that play for Central Florida, but it's a wee bit different when you are looking accross at the Philadelphia Eagles secondary...

He didn't leave anyone back to pick up the blitz...he may have actually ruined Patrick Ramseys career...

The he did that things with his lips which was just kind of creepy...

The reason he isn't well liked in Washington is that he gutted our program to fit his vision. The only problem is, his idea of the perfect team simply doesn't work in the NFL. His offensive playbook that tore up the NCAA couldn't outwit NFL defenders, and he placed little emphasis on the running game, the defense, or pass protection.

He surrounded himself with equally inexperienced coaches, which also contributed to his downfall. Players claimed there was no discipline enforced and work ethics dropped. On top of all of that, he released a solid running back in Stephen Davis and filled our roster with quarterbacks who'd been with him at the University of Florida. The only problem with that was that none of them were competent NFL starters.

This rarely braught up but Steve Spurrier is the creator of the dreadful white on white uniforms that we currently wear.

He was also a terrible coach that didn't believe in working to hard at his profession or playing QBs that were not from the University of Florida.

The one QB from Florida that he did play, Patrick Ramsey, effectively had his career runied by the "fun and gun" offense.

Steve Spurrier actually made people pine for the Norv Turner era.

The slacker picked on then-Saints coach Jim Haslett for working too hard.

The slacker couldn't remember his own players names.

Last but not least, after deciding he couldn't hack the pros, the slacker phoned in his resignation from the golf course......which is probably the place he spent most of the time outside of his 9-5 job at Redskins Park.

I didn't see him mention anything about Heath Shuler...
