Just a bit of background information:
Rick Perry is the Republican incumbent. He's been leading most major polls, but only by a tiny margin.
Chris Bell is the Democratic challenger. He's the only "politics-as-usual" challenger, but he's also the only one whose platform I agree with.
Kinky Friedman is a left-leaning Independent challenger who has achieved national notoriety for challenging the norm. Polls have shown that if every single person in Texas were to vote, then he would win. However, those numbers change when one looks at actual suspected voter turnout.
Carole Keeton Strayhorn is the right-leaning Independent challenger who probably has very little chance of winning.
