My own feelings about this. THIS SUCKS!!!!
This news brings a great a deal of sadness to the fans of LOTR.
Does New Line/MGM really think that they can get a substitute for
the genius that is Peter Jackson. GEEZ !!!
Well maybe the fans of the LOTR movies and Peter Jackson can get together and demand that the Hobbit be made by Peter Jackson. There are fans all over the world who can make their voice heard about this. Petition New Line, MGM, online, by mail. Peter Jackson made the world of Middle-Earth come alive on the big-screen with LOTR. We all know he could do it again with the Hobbit.
The Hobbit without Peter Jackson??? The film wouldn't be worth a if Jackson is not the director.

This is terrible news to me. I am a huge fan. HUGE. Middle-Earth was real in LOTR. I would love to see what Jackson would do for Smaug or the sceen with Bilbo and the trolls turning to stone. Awww man this sucks.

All I know is that the people at New Line suck.

Peter Jackson should be the director for the Hobbit.
They know it. The Fans know it.
Out of respect for the fans and for the material (LOTR,Hobbit) that has brought many generations joy. Peter Jackson should make this movie.
I think it's really up to the fans of LOTR, Hobbit,J.R.R. Tolkien, etc to make it very clear to the people at New Line Cinema that Peter Jackson is the man with the best plan for the Hobbit movie.

Maybe the fanbase that helped make each LOTR movie gross over 300million dollars needs to let New Line Cinema know they are on the verge of ruining something that would be a masterpiece. Without Jackson, no WETA, no New Zealand, no Ian McKellan, no Christopher Lee, no Andy Serkis, no Hugo Weaving,no Liv Tyler, no John-Rhys Davies, no Orlando Bloom, no Howard Shore soundtrack, New Line is flirting with disaster here folks. The detail and passion that Jackson would put into the Hobbit cannot be duplicated. New Line will regret the day they turned Jackson away.

I really believe that if the fans of PJ and the LOTR movies get REALLY vocal at New Line over this, an agreement between Jackson and New Line could be made
I mean we all know that Peter Jackson wants to make this movie. And deep down New Line does to. BUT there has been a falling out between PJ and some of New Line's people. Go to One Ring.net for all the details. But I think the two sides could somehow work all this out. I think the two sides could negotiate a deal alot faster if the fans get really vocal about it. If no deal is reached I think it would be bad public relations for New Line. Geez PJ helped New Line make a ton of money. A serious black-eye for New Line if things don't work out.
