Default Who to build your team around

Who do you build a team around? Who's the keystone, the most important player? On offense, is it the QB? The RB? or neither. Do you actually build it around the O-Line and then fill-in.

Maybe you build your team around the defense first. If so, who's the most important guy to him. A great middle linebacker? A pass rushing DE? A shutdown cb? A ball hawking safety?

I grew up believing that on offense you start with a great O-line. A great O-line makes the rbs better and makes a decent QB ala Mark Rypien a probowler and MVP. I don't think it's qb, because I look at the Marino's, the Elway's and while they elevated their team, until they got the compliment they couldn't reach the goal. Elway needed his rb. Marino never got there.

On D, I'm less sure. You need a great general. Someone on the field that can get in everyone's ear, make the play, and make sure everyone knows what's going on. I think my order of importance would go middle linebacker, followed by a d line, corners, outside linebackers with safeties last.

The first thing is that you have a thought of what yoour team is to be, then go from there.
Dont think Snyder has ever had that thought. He has brought in so many football "Brain Tankers".
Before, He tried to do it, it didnt work... Now they are in charge, it not working.

But it all goes back to the players making plays on the field as a team. I havent seen that this year for the Skins.

My belief has always been you build your offense around the line. You start at LT and work your way in. On defense IMO you must have a DT who can clog the middle and has potential to collapse the pocket, a pass rushing DE and a shut down CB.

If I had a choice it would be defense. Defense wins Championships! If avaliable, I would get a nose tackle who could get pressure right up the middle. This alone will kill any offense.

Exactly, that is something we need badly this off-season if we ever want to sniff a superbowl championship. I really hope we at least beef up our D-line if we dont pay any attention to our O-line.

Football is the ultimate team game thats champion, every year, is good and deep at every position, and unit on the field. If you are building a team, QB is the most important position on the field bar none. The numbers don't lie 26 0f 40(65%) Super Bowls have been won by a HOF or soon to be HOF QB. QB is the only position on the field that can make everyone else better almost instantly.

Not that O-Line is unimportant, I rank it second to QB, but a great O-Line can only mask a bad QB for so long. A great QB can keep even the best D's honest, thus making an avg. O-lines job easier.
Of course this means nothing if your D is ranked 30th and couldn't stop a high school team.

I think your quarterback is the leader of your offense. And your linebackers should lead the defense. The offense always rallys behind their qb so you have to have strong leadership.

I think a football team is like a house you start with the foundations (defense). The leader on defense should be a linebacker, on offense the QB.

If you have a great QB, OL, and DL, you can put average players at every other position and be successful.

O-line and D-line. If you control the line of scrimmage u control the game. Plain n simple.

Where have I seen this before? Lachey (LOT?), Butz (clog), Manley & Mann (collapse), Grant (clog & pressure), Green, White (CB)

I think you build two good lines, find a QB who at the very least does not cost you games, and work from there.
