Thread: Charity Help

    Default Charity Help

I am interested in doing something for a family in the MD area, or a person....I am in Annapolis area. My wife watched Oprah the other day and wants to "pay it forward".

I am not interested necessarily in charities but more direct assistance.

    Any ideas?

The times are getting cold... see what you can do for a local soup kitchen.... it is a very rewarding experience.

Well I do a lot with all kinds of charities so here is a few ideas:

    Help Chief Z out:
    http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/s...d.php?t=182770

Go to a childrens hospital or orphanage and drop off supplies or toys

Talk to a local church or shelter and they can tell you family in need.

    Toys for Tots

    Most malls have Angel trees

Search local papers for a family who lost everything in a fire etc

Contact Red Cross and ask if there is a local family in need of help

    Support a soldier's family

a few years ago my wife and I wanted to do the same. we called a couple of churches to see if they had some names of people that we could help directly. Hoping to find a family that was down on their luck at christmas time. They gave us a phone number of a single mom that just got out of the hospital and couldn't work for a few weeks..... We did some grocery shopping and also bought some gifts for the kids. Be careful there are a number of proffessional charity seekers out there. If you can, visit their home (durring the day)

I agree with Dean, contact a Church - they always have volunteer opportunities. If you are Catholic I'd recommend the Knights of Columbus, or The St. Vincent de Paul Society. Both groups do tremendous, hands-on work.

God Bless you both for trying!
