Campbell is averaging 31.6 attempts per game, Brunell averaged 28.8 this season. You'd think that, with a rookie at QB, they'd try to keep his attempts lower and run more. I wonder what the thinking of the coaches is...

Since when was Campbell a rookie?
Because the 700 page playbook says so.

OK, second year player with zero starts until three games ago. Happy?
Maybe we've been forced into 3rd and long situations more? I really have no idea.
Maybe because the offense has MORE plays with Campbell? In three games with Campbell, the offense averages little over 66 plays a game, while with Brunell, it was a little over 58 plays per game. That's an increase of 8 plays. The ratio of rushes to plays also have increased with Campbell, from .55 to .57. It's not huge, but it's to show that playcalling has been similar.
Should Campbell throw the ball less? No doubt, in my opinion. In the Tampa Bay game, Campbell threw the ball on the deep and out really well, but he has struggled with those throws the last two games. I wish there were plays in the middle.
If we were in playoff contention, we'd be throwing a LOT less. Wouldn't you rather have Campbell airing it out more now in games that are essentially meaningless, so there's time to correct mistakes, critique technique, and have him gain experience? Do we really need Betts to run an additional 10 times a game to find out what we already know about his abilities?

I'm a little worried about his confidence...if they throw it all over the place he'll probably have more ints. Also, I think the skins would win a few if they ran more. It'd be nice to get away from all the doom and gloom for a few weeks.Originally Posted by Riggo-toni

I think it's b/c Brunell S-U-C-K-E-D. I don't know if Saunders wasn't comfortable with him or not, but it would explain why he's throwing the ball more with Campbell.

Yeah I think..
1) There is more confidence in Campbel throwing and more options for him since he has a cannon
2) Let's see what he can do
3) Better Offense, more plays, more throwing (since throwing has worked fairly well)
because campbells 2nd checkdown reciever isnt the gatorade jug
Campbell has an arm.
Plus the Skins suck so much this year they are behind in games which makes them pass a ton in the 2nd half and especially 4th quarter.

Good question actually.
I would like this question put to coach Saunders, the answer should prove quite interesting.

Yeah. I pretty much agree with most of the above. The only thing I would like to see is a little more touch on the screens and over-the-middle pases. Campbell seems to rifle it when he needs the soft touch. That would have helped against some of those defended passes last game. But I think that will come with experience.
um thats only a diff. of a little less then 3 throws. That isnt a huge diff. and could easily be determined by the game not the player.
anyway we should throw more with cambell he needs to develop and hes not brunell so we should be going downfield more.
