Oh there's a big difference. Is it, the best, NO. It is a great burger. YES.Originally Posted by TD_washingtonredskins

Glory Day's is WAY OVERATED, I have gone to the one in Sterling several times. Didn't have the burger but there ribs were tuff and the wings are little pieces of grissle although there sauces are good.Originally Posted by Major Harris
I had a very bad experience there also, ordered a a GM and when it came I swirled the brandy sniffter that it was in and it seperated, watered down which is BS, I bring this to the bartenders attention and she goes balistic on me and goes and gets the manager who continues to back the bartender. i say fine and ask for a GM for my wife of which they can't produce because they watered down the last of what was in stock to serve me. So instead of either saying the were out or admitting the mistake of trying to pull a fast one they lost a customer.
Burger wise I like 5 Guy's it kinda reminds of a old school greasy spoon type place but my fav is when it's in season Clyde's has a Buffalo Burger.
Waffle House has awesome burgers, too. They're small, so you can snack on two or three of em.
I prefer the Waffles.Originally Posted by Spaceman Spiff

In-N-Out Burger
ITs a place out here called black bear... mmmm amazing.
They may have lost more than one...Originally Posted by canethang 305
Back to topic, I just bought all the ingredients, but didn't find ground sirloin - the butcher at Shoppers said they don't do that, and Safeway didn't even have any sirloin. I also didn't find any fresh horseradish root, so I bought some in a jar -- which is a good thing since my wife apparently threw out what we had in the fridge.
Now, I'm going to make myself a tasty burger
And of course, I'll be drinking a beer while I make it (man law)
Mark, if they don't have ground sirloin ask the butcher if he can grind some top sirloin steaks for you. My butcher/ friend recomended this a few years ago to me for a cookout. At Safeway top sirloin is almost always on sale in those value packs and after the weekend you can usually find some marked way down cause it's been out a few day's.Originally Posted by Mark The Homer
Also it may be a hike for you but in Clinton off Route 5 there is a small supermarket named Nick's they have a full service meat counter and nothing is pre-packed, everything is behind glass and you pick what steaks/ meat you want. They's trim it if you like, get to know your butcher and he'll wiegh it after you have the fat trimmed to save you some $. They also make fresh sirloin patties that are 1/3 lb. or 1/2 lb. whichever suits your fancy. I grew up on a steady diet of meats from Nicks and highly recomend it.

In-n-out burgers was meationed (CA, AZ, and NV only).
Reason is NOTHING is frozen. EVER. The Meat is delivered daily and is 72 hours hoof to mouth.
They have no freezers in their place at all.
I did, but I had no luck at shoppers or Safeway. Shoppers said no, Safeway had no Sirloin. The Safeway in Olney pretty much sucks. I should have gone to Giant.Originally Posted by canethang 305
Okay, I'm going to go to the goddamn Giant. I can't be messin' around with mediocrity. This is serious. BBS
Thanks for letting me know, I'm about to do the same tonight, but if Giant doesn't have it, I'm going to Nick'sOriginally Posted by Mark The Homer

Well then, I have wonderful news: The Giant in Olney not only had it, but had it already ground and packaged in 1.3 pound packages. No horseradish root though.Originally Posted by SKINSFAN89
Okay, back to the kitchen, and my beer.
You know Mark when/if you do get this perfect burger recipe down, I'm gonna have to find your tailgate spot at the stadium next year. I love me some great hamburger!![]()
Will do. ;-)
Here is the mixture. I've got fatty ground beef, ground sirloin, egg, salt, pepper, worcestershire sauce, minced onion, minced garlic cloves, horseradish, McCormick Montreal Steak seasoning, Essence seasoning, paprika, and cayenne. I wanted to add brown sugar, but my wife was out of it. The Montreal looks a lot like crushed red pepper. I wanted to add A1 but I forgot.
Here it is all mixed up.

I found some great hamburger buns at Shoppers. They were perfect. I sliced them with a bread knife and buttered each side and put them on a skillet.

I formed a very thin patty and placed a thin red onion slice on top. I wanted to use a "red" onion in case I call this a Redskins Tailgate Burger some day. I put a few dabs of butter on top, just for good measure.

Then, I made another thin patty and placed it on top. I sealed the edges carefully. The egg in the mixture helped make a nice seal. I've used this technique before. This makes one nice patty, although it's a bit sticky because of the egg. Check rhe red pepper seeds.

I greased the griddle with some butter and I threw the patty on. I decided to use a griddle this first time so I could keep a close eye on the burger.

The buns were done a bit early, but they were absolutely perfect in every way. They're so perfect, they almost look like muffins.

The fire was a bit too hot. The hamburger as done after five minutes on one side and three minutes on the other. Check the liquid flavor as it flows off the sides of this thing.

Finding decent tomatoes this time of year is tricky. I got a little carried away with the cherry red peppers.

Great burger! But not the best I've ever had, and still not quite as good as Sunshine. The bun was fresh and perfect, and didn't try to fall apart on me. I was a little heavy on the seasonings. It tasted a little too strong in the pepper area, and the after taste was definitely hot as in spicy red pepper hot. I wish I had the brown sugar.
Still, great potential here. Definitely not boring or bland! I will have to make some adjustments, as I suspected. Thanks to JRock and the others who helped here. When I get this better perfected, and I think I can actually compete on a JRock level, I'll post this in more intimate detail.
