I still don't understand the whole idea of that thread. They made a thread and told people not to post in it just to see who would so they could ban them? Not sure where to rank that whole idea on the maturity scale.

i completely agree that it's probably the weirdest thread i ever saw up until that point, but i have to say that the end result has a lot more to do with the lack of will power of the people who posted in it than it does the maturity of those who created the thing in the first place.

What's there to understand? It was a joke that I started on a whim. Figured it'd get a couple laughs for a day or two, then fade away and be forgotten. I never EVER expected all sorts of people to post there--certainly not once the "ban" got to be for more than a day or two.

Instead, it turned into something of a phenomenon and took on a life of its own. So I left it there, because for every 10 PM's I got about it, 8 of them were about how it was one of the funniest most unique things they'd ever seen on a message board and please don't take it down.

So, at this point, it's kind of a social experiment. The poison apple on the tree in the garden, if you pardon the allusion. Seems to me most people would be able to see it for what it was and have no problem ignoring it. And as far as those that don't ... well, that's on them, isn't it?

As to people immediately petitioning to be reinstated after publicly committing "suicide," I keep thinking about people who do it in real life. Kind of takes the meaning out of it if you get a mulligan.

Just sayin'.

As to this forum ... like any other forum, when it grows, it changes, both good and bad. It's up to the membership as much as it is the mods to try to police it and moderate it. Not by insulting or calling each other out, but by even-handed reminders of the rules and liberal use of the "report this post" function.

We're not going to close the forum unless it gets just TOTALLY out of hand, but if it gets to where we're in here everyday playing kindergarden cop , it is going to force us to get more proactive. And as most of you probably know, you won't like us when we're proactive.

Thanks for the deep explaination. That's kind of what I was thinking but it's nice to have it confirmed. It is an interesting social experiment. Why would someone do that to themselves. Comparing it to real suicide is kind of deep. That is something not so easily reversed. Well, I hope you keep an open mind regarding returning what I considered a quality member.

I still think there is a lot of hope for this section of the board. We have done well here for a long time but yeah, the increase in new posters does present it's challanges. It would be helpful to have a resource for this section. Someone that we don't fell like we are bothering if we need some help. We have some good members you'll can partner with to keep things smooth. I don't know how you'll do that, but if there is something we can work out, maybe it is something to consider.

Well if people could read then it wouldn't matter. I don't understand why people can not read anymore is that hard?? The mods said this is a thread to test a hypothesis they had, and it was true.

The OM comes in and actually explains in more deepth why they did it. I guess as a social experiment it makes some sense. I was questioning why would you do such an experient. Why have an experiement that allow people to harm themselves. That was my point. But it was done and now I understand how it came to life.

But questioning if people can read didn't add any substance. I just wonder why some people even bother to reply to some posts if they don't have anything of substance to add. Worse is when they take to opprotunity to post something insulting. That is part of what lowers the quality of this board. And people that do it once, thend to do it a lot. So what do we do with those members? This is my question to the mods.

We have a fine furniture collection in our sub-basement from the early Spanish Inquisition period. It works on most posters who can't seem to help themselves. Problem we run into is with guys who actually like it. Like 'booma, for instance, who we then have to deal with in other ways.

What can I say .... sometimes modding is hard.

I still say Skinfan2K should be given another chance. He's just a kid. Those 40 year old's with failed marriages are one thing. Kids in college with mid-terms are another IMHO. I respect the seriousness of the suicide thread and the authority of the mods so it is what it is but I would like to see him back.

I learned to get along with him but I still was not big on the idea of a Heat fan hanging around here so he could tell us what's wrong with our team. Anyone who follows the rules has the right to be here so I suppose nothing could be done about it.... until he posted in that thread.

He is a Wizards fan also. How else do you explain someone that grew up watching them, watches every game and posts in a Wiz thread? If it walks like a chicken and clucks like a chichen, it's probably a chichen, even if it thinks is a dog.

Let me start off by saying that if it is inappropriate for me to start a thread about this I'm sorry. I'm not trying to offend anyone here or break any rules, I just have a message that I would like all who post in this forum to see.

I love the Wizards, and I love having a great place to come to be able to discuss them with fellow fans. I'm emploring and challenging all posters in this forum to take it upon themselves to apply the forum rules of extremeskins in all posts. I am NOT trying to be a "wannabe mod", or "make my own rules" or anything. Honestly. I just don't want to see this forum closed down, and any fan of the Wiz should feel the same way I do. There will be disagreements, but the thing that is getting us in trouble is the name-calling. We can have disagreements, but there's no reason to belittle each other. I understand tempers can run hot, and I've been guilty in the past too... but let's just try to think before we all post from now on.

That's all I have to say... you won't hear anything like this from me again, I just figured I'd stick my neck out there once to try to save this forum.
