Thread: Another U.S. star flips off America

Default Another U.S. star flips off America

The ultimate hypocracy. Movie stars have no problems making money by making violence laced movies, making movies insinuating it's OK to be gay, cool to murder, or OK to engage in other screwed up behavior, but they can't see that the crap they produce is leading to the problem they're bitching about. Well, at least in some cases

You've seen him in some endearing roles – such as the paternal figure to the shepherding pig "Babe."

You've seen him in the role of the "heavy," like playing the criminal father of "24" hero Jack Bauer.

But you may not know the real James Cromwell – the 6-foot-7-inch, 67-year-old Oscar-nominated American actor who is also featured in the upcoming "Spider-Man 3."

Here he is speaking to the London Telegraph: "I can't handle living in the United States of America when I know the last two elections were rigged, and that we were denied our right to vote, where we live in a country where 32 percent of the people vote and even those people's votes don't count, and the people who should really have a stake, kids, don't have any say at all – people of color, very little to say, unions, practically nothing any more … we're losing our jobs. …"

No, that's no Alec Baldwin. It's James Cromwell, another U.S. star who chooses to flip off America on foreign soil.

"His diatribe is liberal boilerplate, but it's mesmerizing nonetheless, thanks to years of formal actor-training, his charisma and sincerity," explains reporter Susan Dominus.

So why would a man who views the world – and his country – this way agree to play in the hit series "24," which is the focus of much criticism from others who see evil when they look at America?

"I am on the horns of a dilemma – I can walk away if I think it's really bad," Cromwell explains. "It's hard to explain. It's a job."

He was so nice to that pig, too...

    That'll do, James... that'll do.

OK, here is where he lost me, he thinks that the last 2 elections were rigged, ok that's his opinion and I disagree, the fact that only 32% of elligable voters vote is not the fault of who he is implying but whatever, but when he is advocating for children to be voters, I can say for sure that he is nuts. We have enough of a problem with uneducated voters as it is, but now he wants peoples kids who aren't even at a stage in their lives where they can look after them selves to make a decision that can change the direction our country goes is nuts.

So an active American general rips gay people as immoral (many of whom are in his charge) in the American media, and it's 'who cares'? But some B-list actor that nobody has ever heard of says he's sick of American politics in a foreign rag that most Americans won't even read and we should be pissed?
...and I always wondered 'why can't he stay dead?' It doesn't change any good thing that he said. What matters is his life and not how he died. Why can't he just be a nice Jewish guy? - Tommy Womack

I knew the dems didn't win last November and this proves it.

To me it matters at least a little that he did it overseas instead of over here, one of those things like Kerry did, where it wouldn't have mattered nearly as much if it was said in america....

as to the other guy, he says that they are immoral and since morality is subjugative to the individual then that tells you that it is immoral to him...

I don't see him saying kids should have the vote anywhere in there.

I think it much more likely that he meant that kids' needs and interests are not heard by politicians as easily as, say, oil company wishes.

OMG someone organize the nationalist rally quick!!!

Who the hell cares. People are starting to sound like we should be marching around the country declaring the superiority of the state (no I'm not comparing anyone to nazis, just making a point about nationalism).

Well, he's expressing a personal opinion about a particular group of people. What if he expressed the opinion that he just didn't like black people? Racial views are subjective to the individual as well. I think we all know he would be publicly crucified in this country and people would be screaming bloody murder.

Another example that it's ok to disparage some groups in this country, but not others.

    Ultimate hypocrisy.

As for the topic at hand though, I could care less what Jack Bauer's dad thinks about this country. People in the entertainment industry aren't exactly the ambassadors of intelligentsia.
