Exclamation It's late, and I say, let's enjoy the offseason

I don't often comment on other threads and I haven't really started many. But I have been reading all of your thoughts on the offseason, if we should trade down, who should we trade, do we pick up DE or DT if we stay at pick 6. It's all been great stuff.

One thing I did pick up on though is a trend to bash people for saying player X is better than player Y. History has shown the ENTIRE NFL Draft is a crap shoot. Some guys you pick number 1 and they fall flat on their faces (Heath Shuler ring a bell?). Other guys can be picked up in the 6th round that show flashes of potential, like our own Kedric Golston. You never know how a guy will turn out.

We really shouldn't have any expectations about or arguments over who's going to be better because none of us can possibly know. It's the offseason. I know it sucks that our team was bad last year. I know. I've been a Skins fan since age 6 and will always be, good times or bad. I know we all want the season to start and for our team to go out and kick butt and take names on D again and light it up with Campbell to Moss and Campbell to Cooley, etc.

Reading the columns posted on here has given me lots of hope, all the players seem to really be taking it personally how they played last season. Fletcher is going to be great, he's totally got a Skins attitude and will IMO be a big bargain for us in free agency. The fact that Campbell is starting work in March is fantastic, it means he is really serious and dedicated, following that Peyton Manning kind of modern example for an elite QB. Jason could be better in the long run because of his athleticism and strong arm, IMO.

But if you want to examine it, truly, that yes, Branch is a big 2 gap guy, Okoye has unlimited upside, Anderson (sorry if I spelled it wrong) and Adams can get to the QB, etc, then you have a good argument with me. If you say, "Well, Adams is a doo doo head because he's small and Anderson rules all because he's so big" is just pointless.

My point is, (since i'm rambling bad), that it's a long way to September. Enjoy the offseason.

And let's have a few creative names tossed around about Cowboys/Eagles/Giants players instead of each other. No point in wasting good ammo on your own soldiers!

I'll even start. Romo is a tool. McNabb is a loser. Eli is a Scrub.

Great post - truth be told, no one knows wtf we're going to do in the draft. Hell, today I here we're seriously considering drafting Russell!

it is, as well as about 50% of the crap that hits this board every day. Russell aint comin here.

that being said...great post and i agree with you. I personally dont even do that much research and tooling around when it comes to the draft because it's not that serious. The draft is...yes...but my opinion of the guy isnt. I know we need a DE and that is the over all consensus of what we are looking at and i'm fine with that. I just wish people wouldnt sit here and try to be the GM of the Redskins....instead lets just be fans....heres to the offseason.....hopefully it's short

oh....and Shockey's a punk...Andy Ried is a walrus...i just dont like any of the cowboy players haha

Russell coming here is pure crap. We need to bolster the defense and create depth everywhere.

Oh, the whole fadeaway jump shot thing the Giants defenders did last year was soooo gay.

good post, its funny when I start talking about the draft I get emotionally involved when in fact Gibbs is going to get who he wants and I doubt that any journalist blog or fans ramblings on a message board are going to change his mind. The one good thing I can think of to make me enjoy the offseason is that Gibbs is one of the best at judging talent and character

I hear the Skins have narrowed it down to their top two favorites:

    Quinn/Russell

I do what I can! I just couldn't deal with any more arguments among our own. If we are gonna playa hate, let's at least hate the right playas!

Leonard Davis is fat and lazy. Shockey is a little girly man. Dawkins hits like my grandma.

    And so on...

If there is any talk at all about JaMarcus Russell coming here, it's hopefully from someone in the Redskins FO trying to entice someone who is lower and interested in Russell to make a move up to our #6 spot

Are you suggesting our FO may have a plan for this years draft? Involving acquiring extra picks whilst still getting who they want with their first?

    Are you drunk?

lol only joking, though something has happened. Fletcher is a great acquisition, Smoot a good (potentially great depending on how he can influence the D as a whole) one too. I like what I'm seeing so far.

As far as insults I like using 'if you followed American Football you'd be a Brokeback fan'. Not met anyone over here that understands what I just said so it's a great way to insult someone especially when delivered with a smile

No offense, but discussing who we think will be more successful amongst potential draftees is a lot more entertaining than cheesy jokes about the teams we hate. I'm not being a downer, just honest. I don't advocate personal attacks, but lively discussion regarding opinions is what it is all about. Also, I don't think anyone on this board is expecting Campbell's career to resemble Manning's career at all and we're fine with that. We're expecting a solid field general with a winning attitude, not a top 3 qb of all time. Although I second your motion on loving his work ethic and I agree about Fletcher.
