Grade 60
Expert's Take: Macklin is extremely competitive and consistent, works hard and plays taller than his listed size. He is tough and aggressive and can high-point the ball. He has very quick feet, plays under control and has good short-area skills which are suited for a cover 2 scheme. He shows decent cover instincts and understands route concepts and makes good decisions from off coverage, and can squat and close quickly against three-step drops. Macklin is also not afraid to make contact in run support, though he lacks quality size. He struggles with consistency in tackling and coverage, though, and there is some disappointment that a veteran player like Macklin is often caught out of position and loses his man in coverage. He has shown the ability to cover but something is still lacking there. He would be a good backup on a team and that may be where his level of play is best suited. Macklin still has good quickness in his game and can contribute on special teams due to athletic ability, and while he possesses all the tools and ability to be a quality corner, but has not made plays with consistency.
