Default ABC News: Obama Against Immigration Plan in Current Form...

    Link is Here...
On the Democratic side of the aisle, Barack Obama offered a reminder that the immigration issue divides both parties. "Without modifications," said Obama in a statement released by his Senate office, "the proposed bill could devalue the importance of family reunification, replace the current group of undocumented immigrants with a new undocumented population consisting of guestworkers who will overstay their visas, and potentially drive down wages of American workers."
Judging by the early comments, I think this is going to be another bill that dies.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... enforce first, and then guest worker plan later. Those illegals kicked out due to enforcement should be given a better position than those who go into a guest worker plan, and companies should not be given huge fines.

But I really want to see a committment to the wall, border patrol, and infrastructure on the border.

The influx of all of these "send-a-message" non-bills is driving me nuts! Damn the 2 party system to hell!

    So the tally sits at...

Dems for the amnestyish bill= No
    (Obama, Pelosi, etc)

    GOP's for the amnestyish bill=No
(The strongest and most conservative voice in the GOP against this bill was chastised as a RINO in the SC debates for wanting to adhere to the constitution strictly... who woulda thunk?)

    Independents for the amnestyish bill=No

    and the kicker,,,

Illegals for the amnestyish bill= (drumroll) NO!

Gotta love the tax dollar hard at work in value added activity for our citizens.

I'll wait on the final bill.

    But to address Obama's comments:>

The flaw in the family reunification and automatic citizenship for births here is it is a ever expanding process under the current rules.

A child born here gets it's parents and other children, grandparents, their brothers and sisters and expanding to each one of their relatives become eligible....and on and on.

    But it's only family

I also do not see the current ones being replaced in any measure, but rather added to the ones already here that are not leaving

It's funny ... I bet family reunification was the least controversial part of the original 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act because it was to help citizens who had grandmas in Eastern Europe or something. I don't think anyone expected it to create massive waiting lists and an explosive growth in the level of immigration, but I guess that's the tricky thing about exponential functions ... and Catholicism.

In any case, it sounds like anyone who wasn't in the room for the compromise pretty much opposes it right now. We'll have to wait and see what people say after they have actually read the bill, but from what I hear it sounds a little bit ambitious to try to pull off on a short timeline and with so many major players a little nervous about their own Presidential aspirations.
