Word is that Phoenix is trying to move up into the later teens to get Jason Smith. Considering we have Pecherov and Blatche coming on strong, we probably will go with a SG in the first round. Does it make sense to swap the #16 for the #24 and #29?

I say yes, unless EG sees a sure thing at #16. We have stale dog poop at the end of our bench right now. A 2 for 1 would help clean up the smell.

I wouldn't mind if the Wiz do that. Also, Philly is supposedly looking to move up into the late teens to get Jason Smith offering both of their late 1st round picks (#21 and #30). Probably at least one of Almond, Belinelli or Byars could still be there at 21/24 and at 29/30, the Wiz then could draft a big.

I'd be happy if it played out like this. We're in a pretty good situation. With a draft this deep we could land two impact players if we traded down. Or it's possible a top-10 talent falls to us at #16 and we can snatch him.

If Phoenix wants Smith, I want Smith. I trust their judgment. A lot of people seem to think Smith isn't only a great scoring 4-5 but also a very athletic rebounder/defender. We could always use more big men who can play center and not suck.

If we lose Stevenson, I'd be open to that trade so maybe we can pick up 2 out of a lesser big, Stevenson's replacement, or a PG, but I really have my sights set on Jason Smith at the moment. I think he's gonna be real good, and the Suns wanting to move up for him kinda confirms that for me.

I think everyone is looking at Smith as a somewhat larger version of Googs. He really seems to be a decent pick, but the more I think of it, the more I'm concerned about our 2/3 position. We really don't have squat there. It would be perhaps better to get a top flight SG and then use our MLE for a serviceable center (while hopefully packing one of our current fighting stiffs in the middle for a salami sandwich or something).

    Two situations.

Situation #1: One of the lottery picks slips
You take him if he is there. Some mock drafts are projecting Julian Wright slipping all the way to us with the 16th pick. I think this is entirely possible. Despite position fit or what not, you take that player.

Situation #2: This does not happen

We've drafted big men only for the past 3 years. Jason Smith is definitely going to be a bust. Sure, he is athletic, but he has alligator arms and small hands (= crappy rebounder and finisher). Plus, THE BIG WARNING SIGN: he is from a small conference and he failed to dominate in it like Stuckey and Almond did. Because there are so many 2/3's in this draft, we will be able to drop down to 21 or 24 and still pick up an Almond/Fernandez/Bellinelli/Byars and then with the 2nd 1st round pick, we can get ourselves that 3rd PG who will replace old AD in a year or two (Gabe Pruitt/Taurean Green)

i'd have to agree here. although i'm not sure that smith will "definitely" be a bust, i think the trade is worth it considering smith's unimpressive numbers in a small conference. i would be very happy with trading down and still being able to get someone like bellinelli at 21 or 24. hahaha maybe mcroberts even? sure, he's not everyone's favorite player, but if he's available at 29/30, then he sure is a steal

Y'all are crazy. While it's a possibility, I'd like to stay where we are and take BPA.

Unless there is a great 2/3 on the board, I'm all for taking Smith or any other big man or even Crittenden if EG is high on him. 1 and 4/5 are the toughest positions to fill. Guys like Stephenson are available every year and are easy to replace.

That's why EG is always drafting big man prospects and why I hope he keeps doing so.

And I have no idea how anyone here KNOWS that someone is going to be a bust. That's absurd.

From all indications, Smith seems to be having monster workouts with everyone, so I'm having a hard time understanding how posters here "know" he's a bust when most GMs don't seem to be able to figure this out.

That said, we really do have a glaring hole at wing players who can shoot. Trading down to get two potential wings might be better. But yeah, if a clear lottery pick falls in our lap, regardless who it is, I think we take it. Wright probably qualifies.

Smith is the Mike Mamula of this draft and is fool's gold. He is your classic athletic guy who can't live up to the billing. He is the type that gets overrated in this draft.

A guy like Jared Dudely is the exact opposite of Smith. He is a proven player from a big conference who may not have elite athleticism but has the bball IQ to be a player in this league. He is the typical type that gets underrated in this draft.

Rumor is Acie Law has a promise at no. 11 to the Hawks. Almond and Byars are guys cut from the same cloth as Tucker who will be better players, because they already play the SG/SF position.

I feel blessed that you would give us this insight for free. If only the NBA GMs were so graced...

This is why I like Lee Humphrey, esp. as an undrafted free agent. Pure shooter, but you all saw what he did w/ Florida (and I still remember what he did against GMU in 2006 )
