Dogfighting: How much of it is going on?

With the Vick case I have been made aware of how horrid dog fighting is. I had known for years that something like this happened but I am curious how prevelant it is and what the "culture" of it is

A local Chicago news station yesterday reported that 1 in 5, yes 1 in 5 inner city youths were involved in dog fighting. That this stuff took place in backyards, in gyms and on the playgrounds. Apparently school and law enforcement officials interviewed for this puff piece said it was a huge problem in the Chicago public school system

My question is, are we just scratching the surface with MV?

I had been hearing about that also, that the hip hop community has glamorized it and that it is a lot more popular then people realize

I just never knew a) the horrors of it and b) the extent of it

Ill never ever forget being the first responder on a ambulance to one of these horrid scenes. 11 people from a rival gang beat this guy to near death after their dog lost. We get called to the scene. I've seen some wild things but this took it to another level. While making my way to the patient I cross paths with what looks like a half eaten dog. The only body part moving was the poor things eyes. He watched every move I made as if he was begging me to help him. He would let out a few whimpers. It died before we left with the patient. It literally just sat there and bled to death. People who go to these things are scum of the earth. It's not just the horrid fighting of the dogs, its the drugs and violence that go with it as well. In some places dog fighting is a family event where picnic food is brought and adults and kids alike cheer for more blood. The cheers get louder when the losing dog gets shot and put out of its misery. Whether its white/black/spanish or gang/family event you have to be scum to do this.

I dont think CP is involved in it. I think he grew up around it and therefore sees it as acceptable.

Im sure a bunch of athletes are though, probably not to Vicks level.

I don't think he is involved either, but clearly he has seen something or at least knows something about it, which is why I am wondering if Vick is just the surface
