Default Why dont we have an Indoor practice facility?

I dont understand why the redskins dont have an indoor practice facility or "bubble." It seems like we are loosing alot of practice time by cutting short practices and limiting the 2 a days.
Seems like were stuck in the middle between old school and new school.

I saw the Titans using a bubble.

This has come up in a few threads but nobody knows except maybe officials at Redskins Park.

I doubt it is $$$ but could be zoning but I doubt that too. Maybe old school thinking...how many games do we play in a dome this year or more importantly, early on when the temps can be brutal.

Yep, only one dome game @ Minnesota.

I am certainly not saying that is the reason because it is just practice, just spitballing.

Joe Gibbs has said in the past that you play outdoors, you should practice outdoors.

I understand Gibbs old school philosophy. But if we are going to keep it oldschool why move camp back to redskins park and why put the players up at the Marriott.
I keep reading about Gibbs shortening practices due to heat or a t-storm. It would make sense that they have an indoor facility to work on that complex offense. Or at least be able to practice in full pads.

That is one of those things that coaches say that sounds good but does not really make any sense when you think about it.

I agree that if possible you should practice outside at all times. But if you have to cancel or shorten practice because of weather than it makes no sense not to practice inside that day in order to maximize your time and not lose practice reps.

Practice anywhere is better than NO practice.

I never really thought about it. I'm sure if a future coach requests one Dan will have it built though. Can't hurt to have one I suppose.

True. If I remember, that response was to a reporter when asked about Spurrier wanting one so they wouldn't have to practice outdoors in cold weather.

I have seen high schools move to the gym to practice when weather dictates, even though it's a walk through, it is better than nothing.

I have heard how state of the art Redskins Park is with Plasma screens and gaming systems but maybe a state of the art franchise should have an indoor practice facility. I think it would help our kickers and returners too, practicing specialties indoors can help with dome games although like I mentioned, we only have one indoor game this year.

    Totally Joe Gibbs.

Again, another decision of Gibbs' I just can't figure out. He'll talk about practicing in the elements... and yet he cuts practices short or modifies practice times to get around the weather.

Hey Joe, work in a bubble when the necessity arises. It's a nice convenience and saves all this trouble and ensures you don't lose practice time.

No one is saying you have to use it 100%. But if you want it... it's yours. It's not a money issue.... so why the heck not?

That sounds pretty cool. You can also roll in speakers and blast them in a bubble to simulate games at loud stadiums and it lets you practice signaling and God forbid getting plays in on time in a hostile environment.

This bubble thing is making more sense to me as this thread keeps going.

To a point, I can understand cutting practices short because of the heat, God forbid there'd be another Korey Stringer incident. But, I think back to last summer when a lot of practices for cancelled for rain -- no lightning -- and those missed reps really showed during the pre-season games and on into the regular season.

It makes all the sense in the world to get a bubble. Practice time should not be cut short due to heat/storms. If Joe and the organization are so committed to winning it seems that they would want as much preparation time as possible.
