Thread: Offensive scheme CP

    Default Offensive scheme CP

Who thinks C Portis should be used in the slot like R Bush? Would it be more difficult to gameplan if we moved him around alot more at other positions on offense? remember the idea was there with S Taylor and L Betts is a proven back up maybe we should highlight C Portis versatility while Betts keeps defensive guessing in the backfield.

I think we use Portis perfectly. He's the best all-around back in the league when he's healthy.

He can do it all. He blocks, he runs on the outside, he runs between tackles, he's a goal line back that picks up TDs, he has the speed to outrun any defensive player on the field, he catches passes, he sometimes throws passes and he can light up a defender on an interception.

    He'll be back this year...with a vengeance.

CP lines up outside as a receiver every once in a while... but while CP is capable of running routes, I doubt he'd be as good as Reggie Bush out wide.

Portis plays best from the bench and not in pads due to an "injury"

He's not as fluid a pass catcher as Betts is- but I wouldn't mind seeing him do some go patterns
    I miss Sean Taylor

i agree, as a decoy he might let someone else shine. thats a great way to let Betts rip it and the defense not know where the skins are going with the play.

I would like to see him in on 3rd downs as well. He's a much better blocker than Betts and if CP gets into space he can take it all the way. I would not take CP out unless he needs a rest!

Only thing Betts doest better than Portis is catch out of the backfield.

I think Betts was a WR in college for his first few years thats why the Ball Coach drafted him.

I like the idea, but CP in my opinon has below average hands. The way we will be using him this sesason i think will fit him perfect

Denver used him split wide fairly often. I'm surprised we didn't try to emulate that when we traded for him.

We used to split him wide occasionally in 2004, but it never worked out all that well. CP doesn't have the best hands in the world. That said, I would be surprised if we don't see that a few times this year.

All I know is that you can have Jim Brown in the backfield of the redskins line today and it wouldn't help. The blocking for the run has been terrible!
