Now that we signed Cooley and I am very happy about that do you think we'll make Taylor the highest paid safety ever? I really think he'll want that for some reason or maybe a little less. Will he get signed?![]()

He's under contract for a few years -- I bet he gets a new deal after another pro bowl though
I think next year may be the time to do it. He has 3 years left on the rookie contract, but Cooley was drafted the same year and now makes more, so it is probably time to think about it.
depending on how/if we unload the contracts of Springs and Brunell, Taylor should be relatively easy to sign. Wynn carried a rather high number I think, so his being gone will also help.
I am sure they wouldn't want to let Taylor walk, hopefully that feeling is true. Otherwise, Taylor does have 4 more years including this current season anyways.
I thought Taylors contract was up this year. I apolagise for my ignorance.Originally Posted by Supreme Wu
I hope we don't wait til the end then slap the franchise tag on him - that's a surefire way to make Taylor very angry.
There is two years time to extend Taylor. They'll get it done next offseason or later.
The contract is until 2010 but if he plays well, there may be a hold-out one these off seasons. http://www.redskinswarpath.com/WarpathRedskinsCap.htm

The difference is that Cooley would have been a UFA in 2008 so they had to get a deal done before that happened. Taylor would be smarter waiting until his final year because if he does it now, his contract would not be worth as much as it could be. That is part of why writers have said he was a little unhappy, because his rookie contract could have been worth alot more than it was.Originally Posted by Ingtar
He's gonna get an extension soon, Im sure Williams wants to keep him
Im guessing next year before week one. Like Cooley this year.
I don't see the same urgency.
Taylor was a high first round pick, and got OK, if not great money on his initial contract.
I don't think he could argue that he has outplayed his contract in the manner Cooley did as a third rounder.
i think we are about to see seans greatest season as a redskin. he has changed position to a true free safety because landry can now roam around the line of scrimmage and blow stuff up. sean will be no where near his 100+ total tackles this year, however i can see his int's going way up.
I was waiting for this thread for all of 2 days. I was wondering how long this would take. I knew as soon as we signed Cooley, the whining would start about Taylor.

I liked the way Taylor handled the whole Landry situation so I really don't think that Taylor is greedy like most people think he is.
Hopefully, we'll get him signed before we have to worry about the franchise tag...
