Default Against the Pats: Pressure Brady or get Dominated (Merged X 2 )

Well one thing was definately discouraging about todays game is that as a whole, the D-line seemed to do it's worst job of the season getting to the QB. The sack by Carter was huge, and came at the best time, but overall throughout the game, the pass rush was embarrasing.

Something needs to be worked on, possibly sending more LBs at the QB, but next week it is basically we put Pressure on Brady or it is game over.

Brady has made a living making teams pay for blitzing. His release is probably the second best in NFL history. From the shotgun spread or a quick 3 step drop, he'll make a dcoordinator look dumb in a hurry.

Either that, or you sit back in zones and let him pick you apart.

So your damned if you do, damned if you don't.

The ONLY way to beat Tom Brady is to generate substantial pressure with your front 4, play jam coverage at the line of scrimmage, and let your safeties roam the field. Are we that good? My guess is no, but we'll find out.

This week is a good time to avoid all 'Skins related discussions.

It doesn't matter what color RG3 is because when he steps behind center, we all bleed burgundy and gold...

I was watching the highlights of the Pats/Dolphin game, and what stood out to me was how much air was under Brady's deep ball. S.T. could have a field day is he doesn't by into the Brady hype.

They need to run the ball well and keep that O off the field (similar to what Ray Brown said). Keep Randy Moss in front of the defense and keep a DB or safety on Wes Welker.

Default Game Plan: The Patriots are the Detroit Lions

    Fair statement?

The Lions came in with a ton of hype surrounding their high-flying, pass happy offense. Our defense shut them down, kept the ball away from them, and frustrated their offense enough to force them into bad plays.

So, that gives me a lot of hope against the Patriots. Obviously, the Patriots aren't the Lions. The Pats have a better defense and a Quaterback that doesn't rattle as easily as Kitna. However I do think, that if we redeploy that gameplan, we have a chance.

Plus, if Gibbs refers to the Pats as the Lions all week, it will make them less scary.

No. We need to blitz and effectively, or Brady is going to tear us apart.

    He may do that anyway...

I don't think blitzing will work if the offense is going to go 3 and out over 50% of the time. NE is good and we might get Brady some but will give up some big plays. I think we hang back and make them run the ball, drop some diferrent coverages and try to minimize the # of possessions they get. We'll have a shot if we can get some turnovers and ARE or Rock gets a special teams TD. I am just hoping we compete well and don't have any injuries.

Patriots are worlds beyond the Lions...but I do think we match up well with them and will give them the best competition they have faced so far this year

Kitna doesn't equal Brady. Brady is having the best year a QB has ever had at this point in the season, and he has an O-Line to actually protect him. And a running game.

I love our defense and think they'll slow the Pats down a bit, but this will be the toughest test for the defense yet.
